His diverse career has made him a thought leader in several different industries. In 1986 John founded and wrote for Solstice, a journal on health and environmental issues; his series on the climate crisis (yes, he was writing about this back in the eighties) was selected for national reprint in Utne Reader. During the nineties he built a multimillion-dollar sales/distribution organization of over 100,000 people. He was cofounder and senior editor of the legendary journal Upline and editor in chief of Networking Times.

Motivates anyone to take control and make the best out of life.
The book is hard cover, very nice looking.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2014I never could stick to working out regularly because I was so brainwashed into wanting instant results. After a couple weeks I would give up when I didn't transform into Brad Pitt overnight. This book gave me such an interesting perspective on life and a lot has changed for me by putting my focus on everyday getting a little bit better doing the mundane things right. I used to sleep in every chance I got and would lazily do the minimum required to get things done. I couldn't wake up early in the morning if my house was on fire.
A couple months later after reading this book and slowly waking up just 10 minutes earlier each day and working out 5 times a week and I feel like a completely different person. I got home from work sometimes at 10:00 PM at night exhausted and would still go workout because I wasn't discouraged about how weak I was at the moment, I just told myself I would do it to keep the habit going and get just a little bit better. That attitude has made me massively more productive. I wakeup at 6:30 in the morning now and write out my goals for the day, what I'm grateful for, a positive experience I've had, a little quote to remind of something in the Slight Edge book, I meditate, eat breakfast, and then go workout. By the time I go to work or college classes my day has already felt successful to the point where it carries on throughout the day like a snowball effect making my day better and better. This book hit home for me in talking about how happiness creates more success not the other way around.
In the book he talks about little habits to increase happiness and that in itself is worth getting the book. What you do to go from failure to survival is the same things that take people from survival to success if they would just keep doing them. I keep doing those little things each day now and feel like a compounding penny, changing unnoticeably initially but eventually compounding my value a hundredfold.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2016"The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson educates readers how to realize their dreams and stop being a person who just dreams while life passes by.
Author clarifies the answer in the introduction of his Slight Edge foundation that can be applied to people carrier, marriage, relationships, friendship, love, and practically to anything in people lives. The best part about The Slight Edge is that majority of principles found inside of the book are just common sense, unfortunately they are often forgotten.
As an illustration, when author says "...The average person spends between 250 and 350 hours every year driving to and from this place and that is about forty minutes to an hour each and every day. If you spend that time listening to educational and self-improvement material, you'll have the equivalent of a Ph.D. on any subject you choose in just a few years. That's the Slight Edge...." or "...being productive and being busy are not necessarily the same thing. Doing things won't create your success; doing the right thing will..." we all have to agree with Jeff Olson.
Perhaps a few people will be discouraged comprehending that the slight edge is not some complicated principle, something challenging, mysterious, or something a person has never come across before. Slight Edge is all about the driving force in people lives that bring them closer or distract them from their goals and success.
In conclusion, Jeff Olson's The Slight Edge is very encouraging and motivating book. It is very well-written and simple to read. Because of that, this book is highly recommended for anyone who is looking to change the course of his/her life and ready to become successful. Apply the principles written in this book and you will discover how to make your dreams come true.

Enjoyed the overall idea of this book! It was a super easy read and I loved getting to apply some of the ideas to my life. Would def recommend to any first time personal development readers.
There was a section about happy habits that I enjoyed and the overall main point about compound interest in our lives adding up.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2018If it were up to me, every teenager in America would be required to read this book. Like most great reads it is well organized and flows from one topic to the next. Some may say that the advice given in this book is common sense and it is; though it is presented in a way that I believe spurs you into action. The steps to follow are easy, practical and will actually make a real positive difference in your life.
I applied most of the lessons of this book this year and it has lead to less stress, greater health (considerable improvements in blood work with a leaner and healthier body) more enjoyment of life and deeper relationships particularly with my spouse.
Whether or not a book is meaningful to you depends often on where you are in your life. Many of us have had a book recommended to us by someone, read it and thought ehhh it wasn't that great. However, I cannot imagine that someone would read this book and not come away with a changed perspective and tools to enhance the quality of your life whether it is your health, your finances, your relationships, etc. If you don't read this book, you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to learn how to become better than you were the day before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hits you like a punch in the face from Mike Tyson! A life changing book!
I have been a student of Personal Development for a while and I have read many books that talk about how 'this ancient secret will transform your life in an instant' or 'meditate on the things you want and supernaturally they appear'. These books do not give practical, tangible solutions and leave many readers frustrated with only the author 'growing rich and happy' at the readers literal expense.
This book however is a rarity and potentially one of the best books I have ever read.
Jeff Olson writes this book in a succinct, clear and down to Earth way. He's obviously a millionaire but what I particular like about this book is that he does not shove it down your throat ever 2 lines.
So what is The Slight Edge? The premise of the book is simple: There is an invisible force that is evoked with every single decision and action that we take, good or bad, big or small. This force is never in neutral so if we constantly make loads of good decisions daily, this will lead us to wealth, happiness and success in our lives or if we make loads of minor errors in our daily routines, given enough time, this will compound into financial meltdown, potentially poor health and general misery.
Common sense so far right? But not common practice! What Jeff Olson argues is that societies around the world have been bamboozled into thinking that success is this instantaneous, miraculous, mystical event that only happens to a select few lucky people but when you really take a closer a look at people whom are successful and stay successful, it's the many, many tiny disciplines that they have fostered in their daily routine that have compounded over time to get them to top and vice-versa for tragic failures.
Olson believes that the reason why many diets are abandoned, businesses fail, relationships gradually erode is that it's not that the actions are wrong i.e exercise and eat more vegetables but it's this insidious 'hollywood' belief of instant results/massive action that stops 'The Slight Edge' from kicking in. Olson believes in a more measured, manageable approach by developing the right belief systems and disciplines will over time get you the life you want.
This book is as much about giving you that philosophy as it is about giving you the action steps. What makes this book so great is it's simplicity - there are several 'aha' moments in the book and I found that it really challenged my belief system to why certain results keep appearing in my life. There are not many books I will read more than twice but this book, is definitely in my 'keep referring to' list. I have already seen some changes in my life following these deceivingly simple principles.
If you have the patience, the openness and the willingness to follow very simple and small positive disciplines then I believe this book may potentially change your life. It has mine.
Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ein grossartiges Buch - easy to read, or not to read

I only read one chapter (I just started yesterday) and I can only say thank you. Thank you to the author, and to the people that help other people and make this world better. Do not hesitate to buy and read this book, is it worth it only for the first pages. God bless you all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just amazing
It opens our eyes about the power of little simple disciplines repeated over time. The author explains everything in a way that triggered me in a positive way. I'm not the same person after reading this book. Totally recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes you feel you can do this
Straightforward strategy to achieving. Written with momentum and passion. The steps to moving forward are made clear.
I least liked the chapter written by the authors daughter, it didn't seem connected to the rest of the book. And I also found the repetitive call to tweet, about the slight edge a bit annoying.
Nonetheless, I would highly recommend this book to anyone that needs a starting point or some motivation or help to achieve a goal.
