- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2013An excellent up to date book concerning Fats, and besides the Fats also Cholesterol, Cancer, Sugar, Herbs, and much more, even though it's printing in the year 1993. To me it's a shame that I did not learn about its existence before here in the year 2013, even though not having any health problems.
By this book we, of course, especially are getting all of the information concerning the Fats, and thereby Oils. That is what we are getting from each of these of calories, the highest temperatures by which we must treat them, the difference of the amount of different Fatty acids composition in each of them, if they have been destroyed by producers, and if they are good or bad when it comes to our health. On the side 237 we are getting a Table with 32 Fats, showing the amount of the different Fatty acids which they are containing.
Being so detailed, as the book is, and having so many sides, it took me many days to read it. Among the details, we for example on the side 73 are reading about lowering the Cholesterol, which among other have resulted in some cases of suicides. And concerning Cholesterol, for example, doctors 3 years ago, tried to put my wife on Drugs, which I then stopped by showing them, that among other, according to calculations taken from a Harvard book, my wife had much less chance than I, for getting a heart attack.
And furthermore, concerning the Cholesterol, we on the side 335 are reading that 2 quarts/day, of whole milk, for some persons, can raise their Cholesterol levels from 180 mg/dl to 400 mg/dl in less than 2 months. But still all of the doctors, I yet here have met, only are prescribing Drugs to their patients, without asking what they daily are eating and drinking, and most of the patients blindly are following their doctors.
And on the side 417 we are having Erasmus dialog with the Dean in the medical school where he was studying, and by this dialog he understand that persons, who are studying for being doctors, only are learning how to repair their patient, and not besides also in searching after the reasons to the actual failure. And on one sides we are reading that there have been Drugs giving up to 700 %, or more, in profit. This as the result of the producers making patented Drugs, instead of the better working, and healthier, natural Pills, as these would lower the profits. And that most doctors actual don't know about the better natural Pills, and furthermore are getting payments from the Drug producers.
And concerning Cancer we among other, on the side 412, we are reading how patient cured for Cancer by natural ways, with full documents on this, since 1946 have been presented before the U.S. Senate. But this still up to date not have changed the politics, including information to the public.
We for example also in the book are reading about Sugar which among other also is making influence about how fast we are aging. And much more of interesting detail we read in the book.
A highly important and interesting book, which probably still in the future will continue being the best lexica concerning the Fats which we daily are eating. Tomorrow I'm going to lend the book to a doctor, to whom I'll be discussing about Drugs, but also about the Vitamins B3 (the Niacin) and K2, which we can't get here in Thailand.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2017This is an A to Z book on everything you need to know about fats. There is a wealth of info in this book. I do, however, feel there was too much technical information. I want to know what I need to do to maintain my optimum health. I don’t need to know the molecular structure of every single fat chain. Overall Informative book, but I felt like I was back in college.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2013Books on diet only scratch the surface compared to Udo's Fats that Heal Fats that Kill. He removed himself from his career as a medical doctor to study nutrition because nowhere in the study of medicine did he find prevention -- only drugs to take away the symptoms. So, he set out on a quest to find out how to prevent the major illnesses that take a deadly toll -- diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and cancer. What he discovered is skillfully woven into a book that covers all the nutritional preventions for disease. His main subject -- fats is categorized into healthy fats, such as vegatable oils, high EFAs (essentional fatty acids), and foods that contain these healthy fats, and unhealthy fats: hard fats (meat, diary) and the damaging man-made fats: hydrologized fat contained in shortning. By the end of this book you will have a comprehensive knowlege of keeping your health, even in an unhealthful environment. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to change and improve your overall health.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2017With severe deficiencies in nearly all essential vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and fatty-acids, Dr. Eramsus' Fats That Kill, Fats That Heal is a densely scientific, comprehensive, and invaluable piece of information on dieting. As per the title, the theme throughout the book is the vital need to incorporate fats and particularly the essential polyunsaturated ALA and LA omega fatty acids lacking in our diets. Both marine and plant omega-3s constitute vitamin F, which many properly don't know or hear much of.
Through Erasmus' well exacuted details of the biological and functional processes of the omega-3s and the many ways the body utilizes it, including the activation of prostaglandins-1-the master regulator of many metabolic operations-our best efforts is to try to incorporate them into the diet daily. Taking a naturopathic approach, Dr. Erasmus sees the use of fresh seeds and their oil derivatives as healers of the many ailments now gripping the modern American. Since this book was written and published in the 80's, the lessons are still relevant today and I believe deficiencies are far worse well into the 21st century.
What I enjoyed most from reading is that Erasmus' persuasion could be felt through his passion for this subject and is genuinely believable. He provides us with the real natural prescription for the many diseases and degenerative conditions, which is through natural dieting. The true healers of modern illnesses and diseases are not pharmaceutical drugs, but is, through time, making the effort to consume organic whole foods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flax Oil - FTW - This book changed my dry skin for life. Never going back to hand-creams
The book reads in two parts.
Chemistry at the start, Theory in the 2nd bit. I read the theory part first, and then i understood the chemistry bit afterwards. You don't need have done a class to understand what he's talking about.
The book is full of knowledge on oil. Even explains the farce that EVOO is. How to buy oil and what to consider for health.
WINTER - I take 4Tbls of Flax oil in my shakes & salad to make sure my skin is creamy smooth. Also is a boon for dry-eyes.
SUMMER - 2Tbls - There's more moisture in the air.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fett ist nicht gleich Fett!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterclass on Fats and Nutrition
Unless you are starting a Ph.D in Nutrition or a career in Lipidology, this book is really the only book on fats and nutrition you'll ever need. Even though it provides an in-depth overview on the importance of lipids and their physiology in human health, the text is written well and is user-friendly. If you have an interest in human nutrition and want to become informed on the subject of heart disease, diabetes, auto-immunity, and so many other illnesses that are part of growing older, than you'll gain a valuable insight into why fats are not 'bad' nor 'good', but are rather an essential ingredient in a healthy diet.
If you read and ingest Erasmus' text you will probably have more knowledge than the vast majority of journalists, health professionals and GP's who have been spoon fed the current dictum that if you want to be healthy, you'll need to trim the fat off your bacon, and replace margarine with butter.
Surely you cannot still swallow this advice? If you read this text from cover to cover (and probably read it a couple of times over) then you certainly won't!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read
A great in depth coverage of all fats and which ones to avoid. There are a couple of minor sections that are out of date but most of this book is very interesting and accurate.
