360 VIDEO: The Future of Video Blogging on YouTube?

YouTube just announced that they've made available live 360 videos for YouTube videos – a new way to see and share your world with the rest of the world.

So now, instead of watching an edited 360 video that has taken days, or weeks to produce, video bloggers, like myself, can plug in a camera and go live, showing viewers every possible angle, letting them be the director.

All of us have had the feeling of wanting to be somewhere we couldn't, and now 360 video can help you get one step closer to actually being at those places and in those moments.

Imagine I'm teaching something in a Youtube video in different parts of the world and you are able to virtually experience what I am experiencing, in action.  Would you be more engaged?  Do you want to see more 360 videos on YouTube, especially for video bloggers like myself?

I think that this is the future of Youtube.  What is your impression?

Video transcript

What's up, guys. I just got the news that YouTube has released and made available 360 video for YouTube. I'm not sure if you guys have seen this yet or not but I'm just reading an article right now on The VergeIt says, “YouTube introduces live 360 video, the gateway drug to virtual reality,” which is pretty cool.

Is this the future of video?

I think this is the future of YouTube. This is the future of video. Facebook Video, their video player has had 360 video for awhile, and now YouTube is making that transition. If there's someone that is a YouTube publisher, if you have a YouTube channel, or even if you watch videos on YouTube, which you obviously do if you're watching this, this is a big deal because this is the future. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on this. Again, I'll put the link to the article below in the description of this video.

What are your thoughts on 360 video? Have you seen it? What's your impression? Do you feel that you're more engaged in videos like that? If you're not familiar with what it is, again, I'll put a link to the article but basically, not every video obviously is compatible with 360 video because in order to film a 360 video, you need to use a special mount which basically can attach like 6 GoPro's to a tripod on a mount.

Basically, the GoPro's are capturing all the different angles. It's capturing me towards me but also behind me, the roof, the ceiling, the sides, the bottom. All different angles are being captured, then they're edited in a certain way through certain software.

If you're watching a video, I was just thinking about this.  Like, how cool would it be if maybe I'm sharing something with you guys. I'm teaching something in a YouTube video and maybe I'm in my penthouse or something like that or maybe on the beach in Dominican Republic, which is where I am right now, or somewhere cool in the world because I like to record outdoors sometimes or really cool environments, and by you watching the video, you can click on the video with your mouse and you can scroll around and you can actually see the entire environment that I'm in.

If I'm in a penthouse, you guys can, as I'm speaking, you guys can get distracted a little bit and scroll to the left or the right and be able to see what's behind me. Maybe you see the views in the environment just to see the setting. If I'm on the beach somewhere, you can flip it around and see the view in the environment which I think is really cool.

It's not cheap

I kind of like wonder, I think it's the future as more and more YouTubers are now going to be doing it and getting into it, I'm considering it myself to upgrade and invest the money. It's not cheap. It's a couple of thousand bucks. You need 6 GoPro's.

The mount is about $500 as well but having that, I think it would be cool because it would really make you stand out and be different, but at the same time, it might have like a cool wow effect at the beginning for people because they've never seen it before.

It's still relatively new but I wonder, “Is it going to take away focus and engagement from people on the message on what you're trying to communicate because it might work well for certain videos more than others”?

I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts on that. Leave a comment below. Let me know what you guys think about the 360 video and if you guys haven't seen it yet, click the link in the article. There's, I think, two examples of videos in it on YouTube where you can click around and see the 360 features of that. Leave a comment below. Let me know what you guys think of the 360 video.

Is this something that YouTubers should start doing more of?  Do you think it's the future? Do you think it's worthwhile for video bloggers, people like me, to do it? I'd love to hear what you think. Leave a comment below. Talk to you soon. Take care.
