5 Small Healthy Habits to Incorporate in Life

Small healthy habits go a long way. If you pay close attention to how you live your life, you may find out that those big things that matter the most were a result of small unhealthy habits you do unconsciously.

Let’s take smoking cessation programs for instance. It is a common problem by individuals to stick to a smoking cessation program for so many reasons. More common than not, people eventually end up slipping back to old habits because everything was too overwhelming for them.

If you want to live a healthier life, it is imperative to focus on the small healthy habits that can make a huge impact in your life. It helps give you the motivation you need for work and life challenges.

Here are some small healthy habits that you want to incorporate in your life every day.

Complete the recommended number of sleeping hours

A lot of people today compensate on coffee just to get through the day. Could you imagine how much money you actually waste on caffeine just for you to stay awake and be productive at work? In reality, people go to work despite only having four to five hours of sleep.

According to CDC, an estimated 50 to 70 million adults in the US are suffering from sleep or wakefulness disorder. Just how important is sleep? Based on studies, those who lack sleep are also prone to developing conditions from obesity to depression, and even cardiovascular conditions. The recommended number of sleep for adults is at 7 to 8 hours, while teenagers need 10 hours of sleep.

Why exactly do we experience sleep deprivation? There are many reasons why people sleep late at night. One of which is due to smartphones. While you are glued on your phone, you are actually keeping your brain awake. Blue light from your mobile device could inhibit your body’s melatonin, keeping you awake. According to medical experts, you should disconnect your smartphone after 9pm. But since there could be an emergency that could happen in the middle of the night, you could simply keep the phone away from your bed.

Another reason why people are sleep deprived is due to their eating habits. Eating too close to your bedtime may keep you awake for hours.

So how do you fix this problem? It is highly suggested to take it one step at a time. The goal is to always meet the required number of hours of sleep.

If you are sleeping late, try sleeping 30 minutes earlier every night until you meet the required hours of sleep. This small step could correct your circadian rhythm, thereby giving you a better sleep. If you sleep 30 minutes earlier every night, you will be surprised how you already slept for more than two more hours after just five days.

Remove/reduce consumption of one unhealthy food a week

Have you heard of the old adage, “you are what you eat”? If you eat unhealthy foods regularly, you can’t expect six pack abs and a healthy body. But just how hard is it to eat in a healthy manner? From counting calories to cleaning up your meals, it is hard to get rid of a habit that has been ingrained in our system for so many years.

What you can do to live a healthy life is to just remove one unhealthy meal a day. If you love eating burgers and fries, start by removing the fries. Then, you can remove the burger by the week after.  If you are the type who regularly eats a lot of unhealthy food, moderation is key to successfully eating healthy.

Now, as you remove unhealthy meals, it is crucial to replace it with healthy meals. For instance, if you have removed fries, why not eat a fruit in lieu of the fries that you gave up?

Begin your day being thankful for what you have

A lot of people end up chronically unhappy with their life; they see themselves as victims and they believe that life is hard.  And why do they end up frustrated? One of the reasons is that they haven’t looked back and seen what they have accomplished so far. Losing sight of how far you’ve gone can lead to frustrations and a negative mindset.
