How do I find affiliate products to promote?

I get asked this question all of the time, which is why I've decided to do an affiliate marketing tutorial. Affiliate marketing is one of the most lucrative and easy ways to make money online, which is why so many people have jumped on the affiliate train. As of 2016, statistics show that 84% of publishers and 81% of brands had adopted affiliate marketing. It's fair to say that this is a popular online business model.

For those of you who don't know, affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people's products or services. The beauty of this process is that it requires no investment on your part. You don't need to worry about selling anything yourself. How cool is that?

A lot of affiliate marketers hit roadblocks in the beginning stages of growing their business, one of which is finding the right product to promote. This step is a critical piece to your success as an affiliate marketer, which is why it's important that you get it right the first time.

Before you find a product to promote, you first have to identify the niche or market that you want to build your affiliate business around. You can't just pick a random product. Rather, it has to be relevant to your brand and be something that you are passionate about.

Once you've decided on a niche, you want to make sure that you have criteria in place for doing your affiliate product research. This will allow you to determine which products align with your chosen niche so that you can get more bang for your buck. However, the final goal of affiliate marketing should always be to add value to the consumer and solve their problems.

Here are my criteria for finding profitable products to promote.

1. Is Your Product Commissionable?

When you are doing your affiliate product research, you want to be looking for products that have an affiliate program attached to them. Make sure that the program that you choose will give you a solid return on investment.

I suggest starting your search for affiliate products in marketplaces like ClickBank or Commission Junction. When you sign up for any affiliate program, there are some factors that I suggest you consider:

  • Available banners
  • Promotional matters
  • Affiliate control panel
  • Minimum payout
  • Payment method
  • Tax form required or not

There are a lot of affiliate programs for you to choose from. Don't rush this process. Thoroughly research them and choose the one that you trust and that has high commission rates.

2. Is Your Product Valuable?

Your success as an affiliate marketer is due, in large part, to your ability to create valuable products. When you add massive value to the consumer, you create a competitive edge that will be hard for your competition to replicate.

I recommend that you buy and try out a product first before you promote it to anyone else. By engaging in this step, you will do a better job of promoting the product because you will believe in it. If you promote something that sucks, it will only hurt your reputation.

3. Is There Sufficient Demand For Your Product?

It is important that you ensure that there is sufficient demand for the product that you've chosen. You could have an awesome idea for a product idea but that doesn't necessarily mean that consumers feel the same way. If the demand is missing, you are wasting your time.

This is why it is imperative that you do your due diligence when it comes to the research process. Identify what keywords people are typing into the search engines. Does the product have any success stories and/or reviews? Carefully assess the existing products in your niche to determine whether or not they are selling.

A great way to do this is by looking at a product's Amazon Bestseller Ranking score. If the score is high, you know that there is a lot of demand for that product.
