Can I Publish Kindle Books Under A Pen Name?

In this Kindle Q&A video, I answer the question: “Can I publish Kindle books under a pen name?”

This is a common question that I get, with a fairly simple answer.

The answer is yes, you can publish a Kindle book under a pen name.

You can actually publish a Kindle book under whatever name you want.

In your Kindle Direct Publishing account, when you publish a new book, it'll ask you to choose the Contributors for the book.

This is where you can enter in the author name, narrator, editor, publishing company – or whatever you choose.

Pen names or pseudo-names are very common amongst authors and publishers.

In fact, Mark Twain was a pen name.  Even author J.K. Rowling has written and published books under the pen name Robert Galbraith.  Dr. Seuss has published books under the pen name Theo LeSieg.  And the list goes on and on amongst many other famous pen names and authors.

I like to publish books under pen names if I didn't personally write the book myself.  This is because I only want to put my name behind books that is my own personal work that my followers have come to know and enjoy.

However, it's totally up to you.  Just know that pen names are fine and totally acceptable.

When choosing a pen name, you want to make sure you aren't misleading. For example, if you are not a doctor, then do not have “Dr.” in your pen name.

Alternatively, you can publish your book under a Publishing Company name if you choose. However, readers most often relate better to people rather than companies.
