Should you start selling on Amazon FBA during the Coronavirus pandemic?

This is a question that Tatiana and I have been receiving from a lot of people who aspire to become Amazon sellers.

China is one of the most common places that a lot of Amazon FBA sellers source their products from.

The Coronavirus outbreak emerged in Wuhan, China and has now spread to dozens of other countries.

Is the Coronavirus pandemic affecting Amazon sellers?

The fact of the matter is that the economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic is far-reaching. There have been widespread reports of supply shortages of pharmaceuticals and manufactured goods due to factory disruption in China.

Many of you who follow me have expressed that you aspire to start selling on Amazon. However, there is a fear of what the Coronavirus will do for online selling. My fiancée, Tatiana, and I both have successful Amazon businesses. We want to share with you our thoughts about the Coronavirus and how it has affected our businesses. More importantly, we want to address any concerns that you may have amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

Tatiana has been manufacturing from China for the last five years now. There are five major manufacturing cities in China – Shanghai, Beijing, Shuangxing, Guangzhou, and Tianjin. She has suppliers in two of those main manufacturing cities. One of her suppliers is closer to Wuhan. They are located in Guangzhou. They have temporarily shut down their factory because of the Coronavirus.

Thus, she is not able to place an order with that manufacturer. Luckily, they only manufacture her product packaging. She placed a very large order before Chinese New Year in anticipation of the holiday. Hence, she is good for a while. Her main manufacturer is further away from the epicenter of the virus. It is located in Shuangxing. They are still open, so people are still going to work there.

Things have been good for Tatiana's business. In fact, her Amazon sales have increased. During this time, she would have thought that people would be buying fewer luxury items. However, that's not the case. The Coronavirus is real, but we don't think that it should take away from your desire to build an online business.

Eventually, the virus will pass and medical professionals will create a vaccine.

However, we don't know when this will happen. One of the biggest benefits of having an online business is your ability to work from home. This has really helped us. We could spend months at home and still make an income. If you want to start selling on Amazon, we encourage you to take action. However, it will take 3-6 months to get your Amazon business up and running.

In China, the Coronavirus is slowing down and things are getting better there. We are optimistic about the outlook of China. Keep in mind that China is such a big country. There are so many manufacturing companies that haven't been affected by Coronavirus. If you're going to source from China, talk to suppliers, see where they are located and express your concerns.

In some cases, you can put down a deposit and wait until a supplier manufactures your product before you pay them the remainder of the money. The worst-case scenario is that there may be a delay in production. If you're worried about sourcing from China, there are many other countries that you can source from.

Look into manufacturing in countries like the U.S., Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, or India. Yes, China is the easiest country to source from because they are so fluid in the process of manufacturing. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are the cheapest.

It may be cheaper to source from your own country, especially if you are considering shipping and import duties. It depends on the product that you decide to sell on Amazon. The reason why the United States implemented tax tariffs was to encourage people to source their products in the U.S.

The Coronavirus has been called a global pandemic.

This has posed concerns amongst Amazon sellers about how the Amazon marketplace is responding to the crisis. I understand people's concerns. Currently, we are in a bear market. If things get worse, some people may not be able to go to work. This would mean that they would be spending less money.

Most likely they will only be buying products online that are necessities. This is something to keep in mind, based on what type of product that you decide to sell on Amazon. If people continue shopping online, less people will go to retail stores because they won't want to expose themselves to the virus.

Also, once the virus passes, it is highly likely to cause a huge surge in spending. When people have been isolated at home for long periods of time, they end up spending more money once the economy gets better. This presents a huge advantage for Amazon sellers.

You should still start selling on Amazon FBA, despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

This is your golden opportunity to prepare for your future so that you are financially secure. Be calm, confident and optimistic that things will pass. The best is yet to come.
