Is the Keyword Scout data given on a monthly basis?

Yes, it is given to people on a monthly basis. Each keyword gets updated 1-2 times per week and it’s the previous 30 days behind that update. Keywords are seasonal and change over time. Some of the other keyword research tools on the market today are either built for something like Google or Bing or use that data to estimate what search volumes are on Amazon.

Keyword Scout actually gets the search volumes directly from Amazon.

What we’ve found is that Amazon and Google search behavior is quite different from one another. Now that Amazon takes up more than 50% of online e-commerce, it has become the search engine that people go to in order to purchase products. This is why you need to use a tool that gets their data directly from Amazon.

Which Amazon platforms does your tool support?

Right now, Keyword Scout only supports the U.S. marketplace. However, by the end of 2018, our plan is to release it to all of North America as well as the EU.

When it comes to identifying keywords and optimizing your listing, would you pick keywords that are relevant to a product, or do you spread yourself too thin by targeting too many keywords?

Out of all the words that I put on the keyword list that I built in the video tutorial above, I would want to include all of those keywords on my Amazon listing. I like to sort by search volume and choose the keywords that are most relevant for my product and that have the highest search volume to put in my title.

Amazon weighs the keywords in the title the most heavily when they are determining the relevancy for your product.

If I was selling marshmallow roasting sticks, I would definitely want to include that in my title, as well as smores, maker, garden stakes and/or camping utensils. I might not include hotdog toaster since the relevancy score for that keyword is lower. My title would say something like, “marshmallow roasting sticks are great for making smores and camping utensils, and work well as garden sticks.” Put as many of the main keywords that have high search volumes into your title.

When it comes to using this data for Amazon sponsored ads, could someone take this whole list and run ads targeting these different keywords?

That’s exactly right. Success with the sponsored ads on Amazon comes down to your keyword research and your bids for those different keywords. When it comes to sponsored products, you can never have too many keywords. You will find that those obscure or niche keywords are the ones that not as many people are bidding on.

Therefore, you can get clicks for a lot cheaper. I would export my entire keyword list and upload it into sponsored products. From there, I would start with whatever is the recommended bid that is listed. This would run for a couple of weeks. I would continue to run the keywords that were profitable and pause the other ones altogether.

Could you give an example of how your tool could help someone when they are in the product research phase for writing a Kindle book on the topic of meditation?

There is a ton of search volume on Amazon for the keyword, meditation. It gets a quarter of a million searches every month. The broad match is a reminder that other words can be included before, in the middle, or after the keyword.

Keyword Scout is a great tool for optimizing your Kindle book.

In addition, it's also a great way to find new ideas for your books so that you can decide which topics you want to target. For example, the keywords “meditation ball”, “headspace” and “meditation ball” get a ton of monthly searches.

Just like when you use private label products, I would also recommend using a lot of these keywords in the title, description, and bullet points of your Kindle book. Doing so will allow you to rank well for these keywords when people are searching through books.

Using our tool,  you can also sort by the dominant category which allows you to see all the different types of keywords that primarily return books as the results. This is also a great way to be thinking about new book topics. The nice thing about this is that you can export the table and filter through it pretty easily using excel.
