How To Get Expert Advice – How To Find Experts And Mentors

Finding experts, mentors and coaches has been a vital part of my success.  I initially started through reading books, eventually attending seminars, and then working with mentors one-on-one.  Everything that I know and teach today has been the result of what I've learned from someone else.  Through finding expert advice and working with the guru's, I've been able to fast-track my success and results.

I was recently asked by a follower of PLM about how to find expert advice and mentors.  In the world of the internet, it's easier than ever to connect and reach out to almost everyone out there.  There's dozens of experts and guru's in every field, but how do you know if they're credible?  How do you find them and reach out to these people?  Check out the video blog below to find out.

How To Find A Expert, Mentor Or Guru

With the internet it can be extremely easy to find a expert, mentor or guru on a specific topic.  You can not only easily find them, but you can also reach out to them and communicate with ease.  There are now resources such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn that make almost everyone accessible.  Almost every expert or guru has their own blog or website, either advertising their services or themselves.  In my opinion, communicating with these people is as simple as taking the step to do so!

Using Social Media

Whenever I read a book or attend a seminar, I always make an effort to reach out to the author or speaker.  I enjoy looking these people up online and either liking their Facebook page, adding them as a friend, following them on Twitter, or contacting them on LinkedIn.  I always want to surround myself with success and high level people and social media is the easiest way.  I know there may be a time, sometime in the future, where there may be potential to work with this person or I might need their expertise.  By following them through social media, it makes it easy to reach out when that time comes.

I personally have people message me daily and add me to Facebook all the time.  Most are people that have watched my videos on YouTube or follow my blog in some way.  People ask me for advice ALL THE TIME… and I've had plenty of people request coaching or mentorship.  I always make sure that I respond to e-mails and provide the best advice I can to people, which goes to show exactly how easy it can be to reach out to someone.

Some people are easier to reach out to than others, but for the most part, experts are LOOKING to interact with their potential customers and followers.  They WANT to build a relationship with you, and they WANT to help you.

Using Search Engines To Find Experts

Google, Yahoo and Bing are all fantastic for finding experts and mentors.  You can just search for whatever keywords you want and find someone on whatever topic you want.  If you're looking for health or fitness advice, search for it.  There will be millions of websites that show up of people offering health and fitness advice.  These experts are usually very transparent about their services, what they offer, their results, etc…  You can see whether or not they are the “real deal” or if it's just a bunch of B.S.

Websites To Find Experts

There are many websites you can visit to find experts in different fields, such as FindAnExpertOnline.com.  I personally enjoy using message boards and forums as a way to get expert advice and reach out to people.  A online marketing forum that I'm apart of is called Warrior Forum, where you can discuss online business strategies and get your questions answered.  I've even found a coach that I've worked with through it.  I've also met high level people through Meetup.com, where you can attend meetup events and meet experts in different fields.

How To Know If They Are Credible

In the world of the internet, it's easy for someone to be full of crap.  You need to find out if someone is credible or not.  If someone is offering a product online, and you're unsure if it's a scam or not, I recommend for people to do their due diligence and try to learn more about the product or expert.  You can simply search up the product online and see what people are saying about it in the message boards.  The good news is that nearly all products online offer money-back guarantees, so it's extremely easy to test-drive things.  I personally use Clickbank to sell many of my products and I'm required to offer a 60-day money back guarantee.  It's easy for people to get their money back if they're unhappy with something, and Clickbank handles all of that.  This makes investing in a guru or expert very low-risk.

Apply What They Teach

The best way to find out if the person is credible or is offering good advice is to apply what they teach.  This is the only way to know if it's right for you.  Most experts offer free advice online which you can easily go through and apply to your own life.  If it works, great, then it might be worthwhile to follow more of what this person is teaching.  If not, then move on.

I personally started learning about Tony Robbins online years ago and it wasn't until I started applying what he was teaching to my life that I really became a fan.  The same goes with other mentors that I follow.  The more results I get from applying what the person teaches, the more associated I become to that guru.

Surround Yourself With Success

Finding experts, mentors and coaches is worth it.  In my opinion, you are short-changing yourself if you're not actively looking for and working with experts.  In my video blog The 7 Reasons Why You Need A Life Coach I talk about how I've cut off years of learning and fast-tracked my results with business, fitness, dating, and every other area of my life.  I'm personally apart of mastermind groups of successful people, where I can easily get any question answered or receive support on any problem I'm facing.  It's invaluable to have a network like that.

It all starts with reaching out to people and building relationships.  You have to be proactive.  Your net worth is your network!
