Is Amazon too saturated? Let's get to the real truth.

Back in 2013, I had built a very successful Amazon publishing business. The moment I started selling I saw the huge potential that existed to make money on Amazon. At the time, Amazon was growing rapidly. I remember coming across a comment on my YouTube channel from someone that said, “Amazon is too saturated. You can't make money selling on Amazon.”

This person's experience was baffling to me. This hadn't been my experience, nor had it been the experience of my clients. In 2014, I received another comment about Amazon being too saturated. Fast forward to today and these comments continue to pop up on my YouTube channel. Let's look at the facts.

Amazon is the largest online retailer in the world. In 2019, Amazon's net worth was $160.47 billion and they have continued to grow, especially with the onset of COVID-19. Because of quarantine measures, more and more people have transitioned to buying online.

On the one hand, the book industry has changed dramatically because of Amazon. Rather than going to a traditional bookstore, people can now buy Kindle, audio, or paperback books online with one click. The physical products' side of Amazon has exploded as well. There are thousands upon thousands of products to sell and niches to choose from.

Let's not forget about the millions of customers who shop on Amazon. Statistics show that each month more than 197 million people around the world get on their devices and visit Amazon.com. The question is, “Is the demand higher than the competition?”

Year after year more and more people get started selling on Amazon.

However, the evidence still shows that the growth and demand for Amazon are higher than the competition. The opportunity is growing massively, but so too is the competition. It's all a matter of perspective and interpretation. In my opinion, there are two types of people.

First is those who look at the opportunity that Amazon provides and the long-term trajectory of selling on Amazon. For them, the potential is greater than the competition. When you think about it, if Amazon was dead, there wouldn't be competition and saturation because people wouldn't be selling on Amazon.

On the flip side, some people think Amazon is too saturated. Let's investigate this mindset on a deeper level by looking at two real-life examples of people whom I've been in contact with who have this belief.

Person #1

This is someone who has attempted to sell on one Amazon marketplace and hasn't been successful. They did some research and browsed around on Amazon to find potential products. However, when they investigated these products further, they saw that there was competition so they concluded that Amazon is too saturated.

Is that an accurate representation of the opportunity on Amazon? Of course not because it's only based on one person's interpretation. This person probably didn't have the proper strategy in place or training for understanding how to successfully sell on Amazon. Whatever you believe and perceive will be true for you, regardless of whether it's based on actual facts or not.

Person #2

This person does their product research and finds a great product. They get a supplier, create their product, and launch it on Amazon. However, their product doesn't sell and they don't understand why. They are disappointed. Based on their experience, they decide that the reason why they weren't successful is that Amazon is too competitive. There are a lot of factors involved in building an Amazon business. If you want to be successful on Amazon, you have to market and promote your product, among many other things.

Here is what you need to be aware of…

When people fail in life and their expectations aren't met, their natural default is to find someone or something to blame, external to themselves. There is no product, opportunity, or course that will make you successful. It comes down to you. My business works because I make it work. It's my intelligence, creativity, confidence, and my ability to effectively improve and market my product and services that have allowed me to build my business to where it is today. I didn't get any free handouts.

Amazon isn't saturated solely because of one person's attempt at selling, while there are thousands of others who are thriving on Amazon. Your beliefs determine your actions in life. If you believe that Amazon is a great opportunity you will take action to support that belief. Thus, you will get more results from the actions you can take.

On the other hand, someone with a scarcity mentality will only look at the glass as being half empty. Meaning, if they do take action, their results become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If they launch a product and it doesn't sell, they will rationalize their belief that it was because Amazon is too saturated.

They are just attracting what they believed in the first place! Sure enough, they don't get results. This creates a feeling of learned helplessness which leads to giving up altogether.

It's not that something didn't work. Either you didn't work or you gave up. End of story.

If you don't have a strong mindset, neither will the foundation of your online business. The strategy is something that you invest in; in the form of coaches, mentors, or training programs. That is what will give you confidence and a competitive advantage on Amazon.

If you marry the mindset with the strategy, you will succeed at any endeavor in life.

A lot of people want to be entrepreneurs but have never been one. If that's the case for you, you have to learn how success works and work on building your mindset muscle. Success is not easy. If it was, it wouldn't have any value. You may have to make huge changes in your beliefs and habits before you even start selling on Amazon.

When you become a successful person, you will naturally attract more success into your life because it's a byproduct of who you are. If you aspire to sell on Amazon you can't expect it to be an easy ride. The path may be difficult at first, but if it's worth it (and it is), you will do whatever it takes to succeed.

This is the B.S.-free truth about selling on Amazon.

Don't worry about the competition. Rather, make the competition worry about you. If you build an Amazon seller mindset and learn the necessary skills and strategies, you can build a successful Amazon business.

Amazon has the power to change your entire life. Whether you want to make some extra money on the side or build a 7-figure business and create financial freedom, anything is possible with Amazon. However, nothing in your business will work unless you work.

The question is, “Are you ready to go all-in?”
