Do you have a desire to become a professional blogger?

If so, why? What is it about blogging that excites you? If you want to become a professional blogger, it needs to be something that you are passionate about. If money is your end goal, you won't get far.

Creating a profitable blogging business involves more than just building a website and writing some posts. If you want to be a professional blogger, then you need to treat your blog as a real online business. How much money you can make from blogging is determined by a myriad of factors.

Whether or not you've started a blog already, or are still toying with the idea, let's explore what it takes to become a successful professional blogger.

1. Choose A Profitable Niche

If you want to eventually make money blogging, you need to choose a profitable niche. When it comes to choosing a niche, it comes down to understanding what it is that people need and want. You may think that your content is fascinating, but what matters more is what other people think about it.

Choose a niche that appeals to a large number of people. Ask yourself, “What's most important to them?” Not only that, but you want to analyze your competition in the niche that you choose, and figure out how you can differentiate yourself from them, through your content.

2. Create High-Quality Content

In today's digital world, content is king. The most successful professional bloggers create high-quality content on a consistent basis. They understand that this is the most important step to building a blog. When it comes to writing content, you want to have a strong header that evokes emotions in your readers. Why is this important? Because research shows that 80% of people will read your headlines, but only 20% of those people will read the rest of your content.

Focus on educating your readers, giving them valuable strategies and tips, and providing answers to their problems. It's about quality, not quantity. When you do the work to create valuable content, it will help you transform your readers into prospective buyers when you start promoting your products and services to them.

3. Learn SEO

If you want to be a successful professional blogger, you need to know how to optimize your blog content. You could have the best blog out there, but if nobody is reading it, then what's the point? More importantly, if you have a desire to make money from your blog, you won't see a penny, if you aren't getting consistent traffic to your site.

There are many ways that you can get free traffic to your blog, but let's hone in on Google. How your content is ranked in Google is determined by two factors: on-page and off-page optimization.

On-page optimization consists of  optimizing your content's title tags, description tags and keyword tags for the phrases and keywords that you want to rank for, whereas off-page optimization consists of the number and quality of links that are pointing back to your blog. By mastering these concepts, it will help you successfully rank your content in Google.

4. Monetize Your Blog

Successful professional bloggers have the mindset of building a blog that they can make money from. Once you have set up your blog and are starting to get some good traffic from it, you want to monetize it. This can be done through affiliate marketing, pay per click ads, selling eBooks, digital products, or coaching/consulting services.

Some of the best blogs are those that don't make their monetization efforts visible to the reader. Rather, their bigger focus is on helping and serving people, without pushing advertising down people's throats. In the words of Zig Ziglar, “If people like you, they will listen to you, but if they trust you, they will do business with you.”
