I recently achieved another one of my 2013 New Year Resolutions and invested in a high quality Vitamix blender. I've wanted a Vitamix for quite awhile now, as I was tired of going through cheap blenders and having them break down. I personally blend at least twice a day, and so investing in a high quality blender was a must for me.
I've put up a video blog below of my Vitamix in action. I decided to put up a Vitamix review to share the many benefits and uses of owning the Vitamix Total Nutrition Center.

The Benefits Of Blending
Like I said, I blend frequently – usually first thing in the morning and within 30 minutes after my workout. I'm a fan of blending my meals for two primary reasons:
It's Fast And Easy. It's extremely fast and easy to make meals by blending. You don't have to cook or spend a lot of time preparing meals. You can simply blend up a healthy, nutritious meal within minutes. Clean up only takes minutes as well.
It's Healthier. Blending is an easy way to consume larger quantities of raw foods, such as fruits and vegetables. It's much easier for your body to digest, as the foods are raw and already pre-digested by consuming it in a liquid form. You can also easily add in protein powders, making it ideal for a post-workout meal as your body will easily absorb protein to rebuild your muscles.
Here's some of my favourite ingredients to blend each day:
- Protein Powder (I use brown rice or pea protein for health reasons)
- Fruit (bananas, berries, apples, oranges, mangos)
- Vegetables (spinach, cucumber, celery, lettuce, kale)
- Almond Milk or Rice Milk
- Coconut Water
- Hemp Seeds (good source of protein and essential fats)
- Chia Seeds (rich in omega 3 fats)
- Udo's Oil (mixture of omega 3-6-9 oil blend)
- Coconut Oil
- Goji Berries
- Maca Root (energy boost)
- Raw Cacao (adds taste without added fat or sugar of chocolate)
- Bee Pollen (increased energy and stamina)
- Psyllium Husks (good source of fibre)
I obviously don't mix all of those ingredients in at once (you could if you wanted to though!), but just a few of these powerful ingredients will perform wonders for your body and health. I used to go as far as adding in oatmeal and other complex carbs to my blends for muscle-gaining purposes. For me to eat all of these ingredients separately would otherwise take FOREVER!
Vitamix Review
Since owning a Vitamix, I've been blown away by the recipes and meals that I could create. I didn't know a blender was capable of juicing or cooking meals. The Total Nutrition Center, formerly the Vitamix 5200, comes with a DVD that contains dozens of recipes and a recipe book so that you can make many of the delicious, healthy recipes within minutes. Since owning it, I have made many of the delicious smoothies and even made a healthy ice cream!
Vitamix vs Blendtec
I've done a lot of research and comparison of Vitamix vs Blendtec, and I've concluded that Vitamix is most likely best for me. I personally trust the Vitamix brand a lot more and believe it's much more reliable than the Blendtec blender. Both have their pro's and con's, but based on my research, the biggest advantages Vitamix has over Blendtec is:
- Vitamix has better speed control. The Total Nutrition Center comes with two switches (one for turning it on/off and another for high speed) and a dial for variable speed. The dial is beneficial as it allows you to have more control over how thick you want your blend to be. You can easily start off slow, then increase the speed as you wish. In terms of power, apparently Blendtec has a more powerful motor, but I heard it's irrelevant as only a certain amount of wattage can be released through the power outlet. Apparently nobody has noticed a difference in quality from the higher powered motor they advertise.
- Both blenders produce tolerable sound, but Vitamix is relatively quieter.
- Vitamix has a larger jar than Blendtec, which makes it easier to produce large amounts rather than having to make smaller batches.
- Vitamix comes with a tamper, Blendtec does not. The tamper adds to the versatility and speed in which you can blend, making it easier to mix the ingredients. People have said to be frustrated with Blendtec at times as you need to sometimes take out the pitcher and shake it to better mix the ingredients, then try blending again.
- Vitamix is slightly more expensive than Blendtec, but you get free shipping with Vitamix. Blendtec doesn't offer free shipping, so the price can come out to be slightly higher than Vitamix.
Overall, I think both blenders are incredible and you can't go wrong with either one. I just chose the Vitamix as I've heard more great things about it from others and I enjoyed the fact that many of the juice bars that I frequent endorse it.
Where To Buy Vitamix?
The other options are to buy Vitamix from Amazon or sometimes you can find it at Costco, if they're doing a tour in your area.
You can't go wrong with owning a Vitamix. I've been using it daily and it's been a huge addition to my life, and a major enhancement to my health and well-being. I don't know how I lived without it…
