I would like to share with you how your beliefs and your calling in life have the power to shape the direction that your life will take.
Let me begin with a story. In July 1985, a man named Mel Fisher found the 1622 wreck of the Spanish Nuestra Señora de Atocha, which was a treasure that was worth over $500 million.
It took Mel Fisher 16 years of his life to find this treasure, which is a testament to his extraordinary willpower, determination, and commitment. You may be wondering, “How did he achieve this goal?” Simple – he possessed a mastery mindset and belief system.
Mel Fisher possessed three core beliefs that allowed him to succeed and find his treasure.

#1 – It’s there
The first step is the belief that the treasure is already there. Just like Mel Fisher, you have to possess the confidence, certainty, and faith that your treasure is out there. Debbie Millman said it best – “If you imagine less, less will be what you undoubtedly deserve”.
#2 – I will or I must find it
You have to believe that you will find the treasure, and you need to do whatever is necessary in order to get it.
#3 – It’s worth it
Anything that is worth having is worth fighting for. Success is not a destination, but rather a journey. I guarantee you that there will be ups and downs in life. Your ability to weather the storm and keep persevering, despite the obstacles, will determine your level of success. Your beliefs shape your reality.
The best way to harness the power of belief is through daily practices that condition your way of thinking, such as keeping a gratitude journal. You need to understand that you are what you repeatedly do every single day. It is our rituals that create who we are and what we want. Leon Brown once said, “It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it”.
Do not blame circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. It’s all BS. You have the power to choose how you feel. If you don’t like something, change it. When you take responsibility for your own actions, you give yourself the power to shape the outcome that you desire.
Michael Edelstein, in his book Three Minute Therapy: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life argues that external events and people cannot make us feel any one certain way.
Others do not cause our feelings — we cause them ourselves. At the end of the day, it is your mindset that determines your level of success in your business and in your life. Society teaches us that achievement and success are connected to getting good grades, having a good career, making a lot of money, etc.
The truth is that none of these things are related to happiness. Most people identify with having a job or a career, but there are very few people that identify with having a calling in their life.
Merriam-Webster defines a “calling” as “a strong inner impulse toward a particular course of action especially when accompanied by conviction of divine influence”. If you were able to have a calling, how would that change your life? What would that do for your sense of fulfillment?
In the words of Oprah Winfrey, “There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive”. No matter what direction that your life takes, design it in such a way that it allows you to honor your calling. In doing so, you will experience a life of joy, fulfillment and gratitude.
What makes you feel most alive? Go do it. Life is too short not to.
