Dealing With Failure

Dealing with failure is an inescapable reality of life.

All of us have experienced failure, either in our life or in our business.  Failure is a normal part of the learning process. Do you become paralyzed by every setback, or do you use failure as fuel to propel you towards your goals.

When you pursue a goal in life and you fail, it’s a natural reaction to feel frustrated and angry, but you have the choice whether or not you want to be defined by it.

You cannot let failure consume you to the point where you feel sorry for yourself and don’t take responsibility for your actions.

Emotions are powerful. They can either be a negative, if we perceive them that way, or a positive, if we learn how to utilize and channel them in the right direction. Dealing with failure is within your reach. Are you ready to learn how?

When struggling with failures, research from the University of Kent  finds that “positive reframing” can make a difference. Simply by trying to see things in a more positive light or looking for something good in a setback can help you feel more satisfied by the end of the day.

Maya Angelou once said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you cant change it, change your attitude”.

Some of the world’s most successful people have failed. Behind every success story is a challenge or setback. For example, Warren Buffett is the chairman, president, and CEO of a multinational conglomerate holding company, Berkshire Hathaway, but Buffett considers his acquisition of that company to be a “200-billion-dollar mistake.” Luckily, his mastery mindset allowed him to take that loss and transform it into profit.

Failure doesn’t feel good, but it allows you to experiment with what works and what doesn’t work. Thomas J. Watson's advice ( founder of IBM) who when asked about the formula for success said:

“It's quite simply really. Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn't at all. You can be discouraged by failure, or you can learn from it. So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember, that's where you'll find success”.

If you always do what you’ve always done, then you will always get what you’ve always gotten. Change your relationship with failure; make it your friend instead of your foe. Start failing and learn to enjoy the process. The difference between failure and success is determination.

How you deal with failure determines your level of success in life. Choose wisely.
