Willpower vs. Wantpower – How To Get Yourself To Do Anything

Want to learn how to get yourself to do anything?

In this video blog, I share the difference between WILLPOWER and WANTPOWER.

Willpower is your ability to get yourself to do something.  It often requires a great deal of effort and energy; you're pushing yourself to take action against your will.

Willpower NEVER lasts long-term, as eventually you burn out and will never be consistent.

Wantpower, on the other hand, is making it so you WANT to do something.  You are naturally pulled towards doing it and it gives you energy.  This is the key to consistency.

How Do You Get Yourself To WANT To Do Something?

In order to get yourself to want to do something, you need to love doing it.  You need to develop a passion for it.  It's about associating PLEASURE to whatever it is that you want to do. In my case, I gain so much pleasure from working out and working on my business, that it has become an addiction for me.  I focus on the pleasure and benefits more than the pain.

There's something called The Pain Pleasure Principle that Tony Robbins teaches. Basically, the reason why human beings do anything is from our desire to gain pleasure and need to avoid pain. While I focus on all the pleasure I get from doing certain activities, I also focus on the PAIN of not doing it.

For example, I associate pain to not working out and not taking action in my business.  I have a lot of pain linked to being fat, unhealthy, sick, broke, in debt, not having freedom, etc… All of these are motivators for me and pull me towards my goals and dreams.

Check out a recent video blog I did on my motivation secret and how to get motivated right now. Finally, having a COMPELLING VISION for your life is another powerful force that will pull you towards it.

Your vision is what will get you up early and keep you up late.  It has to be something that you are continuously looking forward to. I'm always updating and revising my life plan, as well as setting compelling goals for the year that I am motivated to achieve. But first, you need to DEFINE your vision and goals.  Once you've defined it, you can visualize it and focus on it more and more.

All of these strategies is what has created WANTPOWER for me and naturally pulls me towards taking action in my life.  This is how I get myself to do things consistently.
