Hola, I'm currently in Panama City, Panama right now. It's pretty amazing here. I recorded a little video on the rooftop of the Veneto Casino and Hotel to talk about some of the benefits of travel.
I've been away now for about two weeks and it's the start of my 3-month travel adventure throughout South America – it's one of the nice perks of having a passive income internet business. By the way, check out the 4-Hour Work Week which is a must-read if you're looking for the same type of freedom and lifestyle. Anyways, I want to make sure that I'm shooting some videos from some of the different locations I'll be visiting – so more videos are coming soon.
In the video posted below, I talk about why EVERYONE needs to get out of their environment, shake things up, and get massively outside of their comfort zone by travelling. It's simply one of the best ways to grow as a human being and there are so many benefits to it.
The primary benefits I get from travelling is getting outside of my environment and comfort zone. In many ways, living in the same environment for prolonged periods of time can really limit us. We develop certain habits or patterns that begin to control us, that are triggered by things in our environment. Things like being lazy, procrastinating, eating junk food, wasting time, etc… are often symptoms of our environment. We literally begin to live our lives in a trance, on automatic pilot, and don't even pay attention to our surroundings anymore because everything has become so familiar and you're de-sensitized towards it.
When you shake things up and put yourself in different environments, you're forced to adapt. You immediately get rid of those old triggers and patterns, and you get to start fresh. You're constantly taking in new stimulation and you instantly begin to feel alive again. You have no choice but to grow and adapt, which is gives you a new sense of self-confidence that you can apply to other areas of your life.
Not only that, but it puts your life in perspective. When you get away from your realm of comfort, you begin to appreciate again the little things that you once took for granted. For me personally, I am now beginning to realize how much I took for granted things like: high speed internet, access to healthy foods, hot water, air conditioning, being able to communicate with people without a language barrier, etc…
Plus, you realize how the REAL WORLD IS… that you have no problems, because virtually 2/3 of the planet has about $2 a day to live off of. You realize how most of the planet doesn't have access to the many luxuries and benefits that you may possess living in North America. It gives you a sense of appreciation and gratitude for what you already have.
And one of my absolute favorite things about travelling and getting outside of my environment, is going back home. Why? Because when you go back to your familiar environment, you come back with a renewed energy and spirit. You come back revitalized and energized, you have a different presence about yourself, and you get to bring in the new “evolved” version of yourself to your home.
For the last three years, I've gone on extensive trips lasting about 3 -months. I lived in San Diego and parts of California for 3-months straight. The year after that I went to Southeast Asia for 3-months and lived in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. And now it's South America and California for 2-3 months. Not only that, but I go on weekend trips all the time and this year have already been to Mexico, New Jersey, San Francisco, San Jose, Miami, Seattle, Victoria, Whistler, and Kelowna.
The secret is to BOOK these trips in advance, as it gives you something to look forward to on the horizon. There's been many times when I couldn't afford to travel, but I booked the trip and bought the ticket months in advance, which forced me to have to FIND A WAY to come up with the money. Pressure creates diamonds, and when you put yourself in high pressure situations, you'd be amazed by how resourceful and creative you become.
Travelling is by far one of the best things you can do! I'll have many more updates and videos coming your way.
