Hey, everyone, this is Stefan from ProjectLifeMastery.com and in this video, I'm going to share with you guys how I was able to double my YouTube earnings going from $1,000 a month to over $2,000 a month in only three months. Now about three months ago I put out a YouTube video sharing exactly how I'm earning over $1,000 a month from a YouTube channel and you guys go back and revisit that video if you want.
I will mention that I started my YouTube channel in February 2012. From February 2012 to 2016, I published hundreds of YouTube videos. In 2015, my channel was getting around 300,000 views per month. I had videos with over 100,000 plus views and the most I'd ever made during that time was $1,000 a month.
That was it and the money that I'm talking about is basically the money that I earn from YouTube ads and I just had the basic default monetization settings on my videos.
I get paid by Google AdSense every month. I don't have any private advertising networks or anything like that. These are basically just the ads that show up right before the video. The ones that you can skip as well as little banners and what, not that show up throughout the video as well.
Now since then, since January 2016, in three months to now April, I was able to double that. Double from 1,000 to 2,000 per month and that's without my channel really having too many significant views.
My channel gets around 400,000 plus views per month now but it's pretty interesting, there are three things that I've observed that help me grow that and help me double that ad revenue and I'll share that in this video. I will mention as well if you're brand new to YouTube, don't even worry about monetization if you're just starting out.
Focus on quality content
Your main focus when you're first growing a YouTube channel should be primarily on putting out high-quality videos, high-quality content and basically getting many views and subscribers as possible.
If you try to monetize with YouTube too early, one, you're not going to make hardly anything because you really don't make much from YouTube ads at all. I actually have a seven figure a year business and YouTube only provides $2,000 a month.
The real value, the real monetization of a YouTube channel is basically providing products and services to your audience, to your subscribers. It's focusing on the backend, not just the YouTube ads because that's very insignificant to what you could be earning from your YouTube channel.
When you're first starting out, you want to focus on getting the views and subscribers and providing content and if you try to monetize too soon you're going to turn people off. You're going to miss out on potential views and subscribers that you could be getting.
I recommend going back if you're brand new check out the YouTube video that I did on five YouTube tips for beginners. That will help you kind of get started with this but if you're in a position now where you're ready to monetize, you want to grow, I'm going to share with you guys my business and how I was able to scale up and especially of the last three months. Okay, so let's get into it.
Three things that I noticed
1. Age of the YouTube channel.
When 2016 happened, I noticed a huge increase. Not a huge increase but a significant bump on my YouTube channel. The number of views, subscribers that my channel was getting and what I've noticed is that every single year around the end of December, January 1st, my YouTube channel's had a boost.
I contributed that to basically the age of my YouTube channel and similarly to Google, people are familiar with SEOs, search engine optimization, how Google works and how they rank websites and YouTube's owned by Google.
There's something called domain age. Basically, if you're trying to rank a website on Google, there's domain age and Google looks at and rewards you the older your domain is, the longer it's been registered.
I think a similar effect happens with YouTube, is that every single year the older your YouTube channel gets, YouTube establishes you more of as an authority on their website and so they're going to give you a bit of a boost and that's what I've noticed year after year around January.
My videos have gotten a boost just overall because of the authority and the credibility that it's established in YouTube.
Very interesting, that's one thing that has contributed to the increase and I've noticed that because my channel now got that boost and got a lot more views because I had a significant boost in January and there wasn't too much that was different that was happening.
I contribute that to helping to generate a lot more revenue, okay? That's one thing.
2. Put out more YouTube videos.
The second thing that I noticed is that I made a bit of a different focus in starting January and that was just putting more focus on putting out more YouTube videos, okay? For those that follow me, you guys have probably seen all the videos I've been putting out.
Last month to give you an idea, I put 25 videos. Some of the videos I put out were up to 30 minutes plus.
Some of them are interviews up to over an hour long, so I really focus on putting high-quality videos out, but I noticed just by putting way more videos almost every day that my views, my channel's really grown because of that and that's also contributed to a significant increase in revenue and one piece of advice that I received that I heard from some Youtuber out there that has millions of subscribers is they said you should make it your goal to put out three YouTube videos a day.
That's still my ultimate goal, I'm not quite there yet.
It does require a lot of time obviously to get to that point but the more videos that you put out, the more money you're going to make, the more views, the more people you're going to reach, the more people you're going to impact and that's what's happened for me.
Back in 2015 I was putting out maybe 15 videos per month on average and now I've gone up to over 20 plus videos per month and like I said, almost every day putting out videos. The more videos, the more money you're going to make, the more views, the more people you're going to reach.
I really recommend if you really want to scale up your YouTube channel, just focus on content, content, content.
I wish I knew this when I was starting back in 2012. When I started in 2012, I was putting out one video every week and every two weeks, whereas now for me it's almost every day, huge difference. I would have grown so much faster if I had just focused on putting out way more videos. Okay, so that's the second thing.
3. Select the right topics for your videos.
The way that YouTube, the advertise network works with AdSense is you get paid based on the advertisers that are bidding to place their ads on certain topics, on certain videos on YouTube.
A lot of people, for example, they're not earning as much as they want from their YouTube videos. Their videos might be getting a lot of views and a lot of attraction but they're not earning much.
That's because the topics of your video, there's no advertisers that are bidding to advertise on those related videos and so I noticed that once I started selecting the right topics of videos to put out, produce, then there are some videos that were able to earn me a couple of hundred dollars in some cases per month, which is really interesting.
It's not necessarily how many views a video gets. It's based on the topics that there are advertisers that are willing to advertise on your videos.
For example, let's say that you have a YouTube channel that's related to … I'll use self-development as an example. Let's say I have some YouTube videos on confidence. Well, that video might get 10,000, 20,000, 100,000 views but might only make me $5 and the reason for that is not because of the views.
It's because there are not that many advertisers that are bidding and having advertisements being placed on a video as related to confidence, right? That video isn't really going to earn me and generate me a lot of money.
Let's say I have a YouTube video that's on business and business, that's a topic, there's a lot of advertisers that are placing ads on videos related to business and that video might get me 1,000 views but that one video could earn me over $100.
The only difference is there're more advertisers that are bidding on that keyword and on that topic of business because for them, for those business people, they want to spend more to have their ad show up on those videos, so understanding that certain topics will generate you more money on YouTube than others and one fantastic way to identify this is by using the Google keyword planner tool.
Google AdWords which is the advertising platform where advertisers can advertise on Google. They can advertise on YouTube videos, et cetera, if you sign up for a Google Ads account and use a Google keyword planner, you can basically see how much advertisers are bidding and the search volume based on certain keywords.
There are some topics for example advertisers are willing to spend a couple of dollars per click on a certain topic, let's say business or real estate or investing let's say. Those are the ones that advertisers want to spend a lot more on, whereas ones like cooking or diet recipes or something like that, you can also see how much advertisers are bidding on those ones as well.
Google keyword planner
I'm not going to go too much more into that but I do recommend Google keyword planner. You can really see what topics are hot on YouTube more people are bidding for, but of course, it does depend on the YouTube channel, the topic that you're in and things like that but just being aware of that, understanding that different topics and keywords and advertisers, they're bidding on different ones.
That's really important because if you know that, if you actually do the research and you can see, wow, there's a lot of advertisers that are bidding to have their ads show on a video on how to invest then you can think, “Hey, you know what, I'm going to put out a YouTube video on how to invest and I'm going to grow that video and it's going to get a couple of thousands of views.”
Now that video, because there's a lot of advertisers that are bidding on it and having their ad shown on it, that video can earn me a lot of money.
Thinking about it that way, that's how you can earn more money from YouTube videos and that's what I've noticed for myself, is that if I were to look at all the YouTube videos I have a couple of hundred, it's only a few core ones that really earn me significant money and I have some that make me a couple of hundred dollars a month.
I think one over $500 a month, one YouTube video and just recognizing that, understanding that has allowed me to publish more videos and topics to earn more money from. Now I don't primarily focus as I said on the money from YouTube.
It's great. It's a bonus, but like I said, the real money is going to come from monetizing the backend, providing products and services.
That's where the real money is going to come from, what I've recognized from my business but just kind of noticing that and observing that I think can help support a lot of you guys that have YouTube channels and you want to grow your ad revenue.
It's just understanding that there are certain topics that people are bidding more on.
To summarize
The age of your YouTube channel, basically to stick at it over the long term, you're going to earn more money. Your YouTube channel will grow the longer you stick with it.
Frequency, YouTube will reward you for frequency and consistency, putting out more content, more videos.
You're going to earn more money, you're going to reach more people and then also understanding the right topics to publish YouTube videos on that advertisers are bidding on. That's how I was able to double my YouTube earnings and that's how you're going to be able to increase the money that you're making from YouTube.
