Amazon currently operates in 12 marketplaces.
These countries include the USA, Germany, UK, France, Canada, Japan, India, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, China, and Australia, AND Singapore is opening soon. It's fair to say that the ultimate vision of Amazon isn't just to dominate the market. Rather, it's to become the market.
I started selling on Amazon FBA in 2012. People always say to me, “Stefan, if I had started back when you did it would have been so much easier. I would have been able to make more money.” This may be true. However, back in 2012, Amazon was 3 times smaller than it is today. This means there wasn't as much money to be made.
In my opinion, it's a lot easier to make money now because there are more people spending money on Amazon. Overall, the competition has increased with time. However, so has the growth of Amazon and the people that are spending money on this platform.
Research shows that 1,029,528 new sellers joined Amazon in 2017. That’s the equivalent of 2,975 new sellers every day. Despite these numbers, I would venture to say that less than 10% of those people actually follow through and successfully launch a product on Amazon.
Based on the data that I have shared with you, I want you to decide whether or not it's worth it for you to start selling on Amazon. The way in which you interpret this data will say a lot about the mindset that you have.
According to the researcher Carol Dweck, there are two types of mindsets – a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. One propels you forward in life, while the other prevents you from fulfilling your potential. The growth mindset has a passion for learning, while the fixed mindset believes that one's qualities are unchangeable.
If you ascribe to the latter, you will always look for reasons to justify why you can't be successful on Amazon. Conversely, if you have a growth mindset, you will only see opportunities for growth. If you want to sell on Amazon, be mindful of the type of mindset that you live by. It will inevitably determine your success.
Is it even worth starting Amazon FBA in 2019?
I'll let you be the judge of that. At the end of the day, it all comes down to your level of self-confidence, belief, and commitment. If you are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve success, then there is no reason why you can't build a profitable business selling on Amazon.
