Have you settled for a life of mediocrity?
Be honest with yourself. Deep down inside only you know. If your gut is telling you that you have chosen to live an average life, now is the time to make a change. That is the beauty of life. At any given moment, you can make the choice to re-write your story to one that is more empowering. Your goals, dreams, and desires matter.
The question is, “If settling is so bad, then why do so many people do it?”
In large part, it is because they compare themselves to everyone else around them instead of staying in their own lane. Everyone else isn't you. There is always going to be someone who tries to impose their mediocre mindset onto you. These people are like parasites. The moment that you allow their energy to seep into your life, it will slowly kill your motivation.
People who fall into this trap have an “external locus of control,” meaning that they believe factors outside of themselves dictate the direction of their lives. As a result, they end up living someone else's life and give up on their dreams.
The first step to not settling is removing the people in your life who aren't living with passion, purpose, and intention. As Jim Rohn says, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” This is why it's so important that you surround yourself with people who hold you to a higher standard than you hold yourself.
In all honesty… there are days when I wake up and I'm pissed off, angry and frustrated. I look myself in the mirror and I'm flooded with anxiety because I know that time is a depreciating asset. You can't get time back. If you are settling for less than you deserve, you are only wasting precious time.
I believe in myself so much that I know that I haven't even scratched the surface yet of who I can become. As great as my life is now, it's not even close to what I want to achieve in this lifetime. I don't compare myself to the average person. Rather, I compare myself to the best of the best. I encourage you to do the same. When you really dream big and go for it, the impossible becomes possible.
Never settle in your life.
Instead, raise your standards. You've only got one life and it's short, so make it count. Repeat after me… “it's never too late to be who I want to be.” With hands shaking, heart beating, and palms sweating, keep grinding away until you create the life of your dreams. Whatever you do, don't give up.
