Research shows that a new generation of entrepreneurs is on the forefront, who are being referred to as “millennipreneurs.”

A consultancy company surveyed 2,600 high and “ultra-high” net worth entrepreneurs from 18 countries and found that, together, they’re worth just over $17 billion. Based on these statistics, it's fair to say that the digital future of work will require a new range of human skills for the online entrepreneur to master.

There is no better time than now to become an online entrepreneur. The future is what you make of it. What does the online entrepreneur of the future look like?

If you want to be a successful online entrepreneur, you need to know the answer to this question. I'm here to share with you the steps that you can take in order to become the online entrepreneur of the future. I want to be the best online entrepreneur that I can be, and if you are reading this blog, I'm sure you do as well! 

When I first started my online business I wish I knew what I know now. The mission behind my work is help people master every area of their lives, so if I am able to provide you with some tools and strategies that can leverage your success, then I know that I have fulfilled my mission.

When it comes to running an online business, there are a lot of moving pieces to think about. In the beginning stages of your online entrepreneur journey, you may not have the luxury of doing things like hiring a team or outsourcing your work. No matter what type of industry you decide to create an online business around, at the onset, you have to learn everything on your own.

If you want to be a successful online entrepreneur, at a certain point you need to hone in on what it is that you want to master and specialize in. If you don't, you are doing yourself a disservice. In the future, making the decision to be broad and wide with your business is not the best option.

Here are some marketing skills that you need to master in order to become a successful online entrepreneur.

7. Analytics
8. Email Marketing
9. List Building

Did I mention that these online business skills only scratch the surface of what you need to learn about when it comes to running a business? If you are feeling overwhelmed, don't.

Knowledge is power. The good news is that you don't need to master all of these skills. However, you do need to have a basic understanding of all of them, especially if you want to be a successful online entrepreneur.

It took me a few years just to have a basic understanding of the above skills. Step back and ask yourself, “Which skills are most important for building my business right now?” Over time, you can build upon the other ones.

When you are in the beginning stages of your online business journey, the reality is that you will be wearing multiple hats. However, as your business starts to make money, you need to make a very important transition.

This transition is one a that a lot of online entrepreneurs struggle to make.

Out of everything that you are doing, what are the one or two skills that you need to go deep with and master? Everything else you need to outsource. Ideally, these are skills that you are passionate about, and that gives you the most enjoyment. I like to think of these as your highest income-producing skills, otherwise known as, “master skills.”

When you go deep with these skills, you need to start removing anything else that isn't serving your master skillset. Doing so will give you more free time to work ON your business instead of IN your business. That is what is going to allow you to become the best online entrepreneur and marketer that you can possibly be.

At first, you may not even know what your top two skills are that you need to master, which is why you need to start off by going wide and having a basic understanding of all of the above skills that make up an online business.

My two master skills that fulfill me the most, and that produce the biggest impact on my business are creating content and coaching. When it comes to coaching, I love to help people develop strategies and solutions for how they can succeed and master every area of their lives.

As my business has grown, my time has become more limited. However, I still make an effort to put on as many mastermind events as I can and offer live coaching program opportunities for my audience. Why? Because serving people is my passion.

I have built an entire business around learning and development. You could say that I am a learning machine. I get amped by anything that allows me to grow and evolve as a person. When it comes to content creation, I love to be in front of a camera and share my knowledge with the world.

Over the years, I have become a storyteller. That is how Project Life Mastery started. I had a desire to share what I was learning with the world. Over time, this passion became a business. Content creation alone requires many different skills, like writing, speaking, and communication skills, and so these are things that I have had to master over time.

I learned a really important concept from a man named, Brian Balfour. It's about how to become a T-shaped marketer or what I like to call, a T-shaped online entrepreneur. This type of marketer has broad knowledge covering a wide range of digital tactics, with in-depth knowledge in one or two areas.

The online entrepreneur of the future is now more well-rounded than ever before.

In the words of Karan Sarin, Chief Marketing Officer at Razorpay, “What you typically find in a market are domain experts, people who specialize in one specific area, but what you need is, and that is where the biggest gap is, people who come with broad understandings of different channels and have specializations in certain areas.”

The future of entrepreneurship will require that you go deep and master at least two skills. It's your job to figure out what those skills are. If you can identify your master skill, early-on, then it will provide you with an immediate source of income, while you are in the process of growing your online business.

You could become a freelancer, on a site like Upwork and charge people for your services. By helping other people grow their businesses, you will develop your mastery of that skill and gain a lot of experience in the process. As you get better at your craft, you can raise your rates and make more money.

There is no better time than now to become an online entrepreneur, but if you want to succeed and create a sustainable business for years to come, you need to become a master at something.

In his book, Mastery, Robert Green says, “We imagine that creativity and brilliance just appear out of nowhere, the fruit of natural talent, or perhaps of a good mood, or an alignment of the stars. It would be an immense help to clear up the mystery…let us call this sensation mastery — the feeling that we have a greater command of reality and ourselves.” 

We all have the capacity to master any skill that we put our mind to, but not everyone does the work. I encourage you to discover what your calling in life is, and then devote all of your energy to it. The future of entrepreneurship will require that online entrepreneurs commit to mastery.
