Tatiana's online business has transformed her entire life.
Tatiana started her online business with zero business knowledge. She didn't even own a laptop! At the time, she was working a 9-5 job and attending school, full-time. There was some reluctance to dive into the online business world because it felt so foreign to her. She didn't think that she had the skill set to successfully make money online but she was willing to try.
She had a desire to travel the world and have more freedom and time. Once she took the Amazing Selling Machine course, she was hooked. Tatiana has been able to build a super successful business selling on Amazon and Shopify. She is now a millionaire at 24 years old.
Unfortunately, there is still a lot of skepticism that exists in the online world about making money online. What Tatiana is going to share with you today is 100% real and authentic. Her intention in doing so is to show you that anything is possible. Here is sneak peek of my interview with her where she shares how she went from having zero experience in business to making $115,000 per month in sales.
How did you get started selling on Amazon?
Before I started this business I was a student in University. I never knew anything about the online business world. It never crossed my mind. I didn't even own a computer at the time. I was also working full-time because I had to pay for student loans. My goal was to work in the Parliament of Canada. That was always the career that my parents wanted for me. And then I met Stefan. He had his own online business, Project Life Mastery. I didn't really understand what he did for the first few months of our relationship.
I couldn't believe that you could make money online.
However, once Stefan started to share with me the benefits of having an online business, I was enticed. He had a laptop lifestyle and I too wanted to have flexibility and the freedom to design my life. I knew that if we wanted to have an amazing relationship and travel together, I also needed to find something to do online.
In the beginning, I was reluctant because I didn't want to learn everything from scratch. I had zero business or marketing experience. A lot of people have a fear of starting an online business because they don't know how to do things. Guess what? You become resourceful and learn skills along the way. What worked for me was having an open mindset. I never limited myself because I knew that I could do anything that I put my mind to.
My first online business was publishing Kindle books. It worked for a while, but soon thereafter I lost enthusiasm. It didn't really resonate with me. Eventually, Stefan and I discovered the course, Amazing Selling Machine. It teaches you, step-by-step how to successfully sell on Amazon. Stefan and I enrolled in the course at the same time. That course has made me who I am today. I followed their instructions and I came up with my first product, which was very inexpensive because I didn't have a lot of money to invest.
I invested $300 dollars into my first inventory order.
I private labeled a beauty cognac sponge which cost me 10 cents per unit. Communicating with suppliers was a big learning curve for me. When I received my first samples, all of a sudden it became real. I was excited to add value to people. I was selling my sponge on Amazon and it was making up to $3000 dollars per month. Needless to say, I was shocked. I was working my butt off as a server and trying to save money for my education, and at the same time, I was making so much passive income per month. That was a big mindset shift for me.
How did you manage your time?
I don't believe in excuses. Yes, you may have reasons that are legitimate. However, we all have 24 hours in one day. It comes down to time management and prioritization. I didn't have a lot of balance in my life during that time. There were times when Stefan and I didn't see each other a lot because I was so focused on building my online business.
At that time in my life, I was working around the clock.
However, I was perfectly okay with it because I knew that it would pay off for me in the long run. I was still in school and I was working. Whenever I had free time, I would work on building my online business. That may have been late nights or early mornings. I didn't even hang out with my friends during that time.
What was the second product that you launched on Amazon?
The next product I launched was a 3-D fiber mascara. I was making about $5000 per month with that product. However, when I was creating it, I wasn't thinking about building a brand. I was merely looking at different products that I could sell that were trending on Amazon.
Today, my mentality is a lot different. I believe that building a brand is key and is much more sustainable. If you are new to Amazon, I recommend that you go into the process with the mindset of how you can build your business, long-term. I personally used the product and loved it. However, it wasn't something that worked for everyone. Any beauty products that go on your skin or near your eyes have major liability risks. I was sourcing this product from China and distributing it in the USA.
Of course, I made sure that the ingredients were safe.
However, the risks were still there. I knew that someone could sue me if something happened. Because of this, I didn't want to have that type of responsibility. Keep in mind that Amazon restricts a lot of products in the topical category. If you are thinking of launching a skincare product or a lip gloss, be wary of that and do your research. This is why I'm a big believer in investing in a course, like the Amazing Selling Machine which will give you all of the information that you need to make the best decisions.
What were the challenges that you faced with your second product, and how did you transition to your third product?
There was a point where I put myself in the shoes of the consumer. I started to think about what I was buying on Amazon. I realized that I had purchased a lot of waist trainers. While I liked the results that I was getting, I found that they would break down a lot. All of a sudden I knew that there was an opportunity there. I had so much experience from my other products and knew how the process worked. I decided to take a bigger leap with my third product.
From the onset, I knew that this product would do well because I had personally used it.
More importantly, I also knew that I could market it well. To be an effective marketer, you have to love your product so much so that your intentions are 100% pure when you sell it to people. Eventually, I started to launch one color in a few different sizes on Amazon. It was a more expensive product to produce. I think around $10-15 per unit at the time and I was selling it for $28.99. Then I started to get organic sales. People were sharing before and after pictures on my Amazon reviews. It was during this time that I decided to quit my day job and go full in with my business. The beauty of an Amazon business is that the more you put in, the more you get out of it.
What strategies have you implemented in order to grow your third product?
I will emphasize that my business would not be where it is today if it wasn't for YouTube. I don't want to scare you into thinking that you have to do what I did. However, for my business that is how people found me. To this day, people continue to find me through YouTube. Maybe YouTube isn't for you. Find the social media platform that works best for you and your business.
All that matters is that you have a strong social media presence.
This is so important when you are growing your business. You need to learn what your demographic is and where they hang out, whether that's on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram or YouTube. Choose one platform at a time and master it. Over time, I ventured off into creating a Facebook community as well.
How important is it to build a community?
I started my Facebook group early on because I wanted to follow up with my clients and learn if my product was working. I wanted to know people's experience so that I could improve my product if I needed to. On Amazon, you don't get that follow-up because it's Amazon's customers, not yours. My Facebook group is private so that women feel comfortable to share photos and results. My group grew really fast. I now have 10,000 women in the community. These women see the group as a place where they can ask questions, get tips, and receive motivation from one another.
More importantly, whenever I'm sourcing a new product, I can tap into my community and get their feedback. This is great for me because I don't have to waste a lot of money on a product that may not sell. We call everyone Luxx Dolls so that they feel as if they are a part of a family. I've built a solid tribe that I'm really proud of.
Who was your first hire, and what platform do you use to hire people in your business?
My first hire was someone who could handle my customer support. I was spending four hours per day answering emails. I knew that someone else could do that better than I could. I found someone overseas in the Philippines who works for me to this day.
She's amazing. She has made my life so much easier.
I found her on Upwork. All of the freelancers that I hire are from this website. You have to think about the currency exchange. For someone in the Philippines, making $5 per hour is pretty good. If I were to hire someone in Canada, I wouldn't be able to afford to have so many staff because the average rate per hour is around $18. Of course, hiring locally is ideal. However, not everyone is in a position to spend that much money in the beginning stages of building their online business.
Eventually, I hired a second customer support person because I realized that this was such an important factor in my business. You get raving fans by going above and beyond. I also have a social media person on my team and an inventory manager. All of these people still work for me to this day. We do weekly calls together. Everyone supports my mission which is a beautiful thing. We know that we aren't just trying to sell a product. Rather, we are trying to help people improve their confidence and overall health and well-being.
How has your online business changed your life?
When I first started on my journey, I had a lot of limiting beliefs that were holding me back. I know that a lot of people have a fear of starting an online business. I used to be in the same place. However, I have come to realize that the greatest things in life are on the other side of fear. If you always live in your comfort zone you will never grow. Growth is a human need. This business has changed my life in so many different ways.
It's provided me with financial abundance. This is something that I never thought I would have.
Four years ago, I would have never thought that I would be making $115,000 per month in sales. I didn't think that this was possible, but it is. You don't need to be a special person to achieve this kind of success. This business has given me the freedom to design life on my terms. More importantly, it has allowed me to contribute to my family members and give back to those who need it the most. This is an amazing feeling.
What were some of the challenges that you faced along your journey?
When I first started dating Stefan there was some resistance from my family. They thought he was influencing me to start an online business and taking me away from school. I come from a very traditional family where education is of utmost importance. My Mom and Dad are immigrants. When they moved to Canada, in their eyes, having an education was what made you successful. I understand their way of thinking. However, I live in a different generation. There are opportunities now that did not exist when my parents were brought up. No matter how much I tried to explain it, I knew that they would never understand. Back in the day, I was living at home, and so I felt like I was getting a daily dose of negativity.
This was holding me back.
I realized that sometimes you have to love people at a distance. There was a point when I knew that I had to move out so that I could work on my business freely. Even my friends didn't understand my path. For many years, I didn't talk about what I was doing. I worked in silence but in the end, I achieved success. To this day, my Mom doesn't understand what I do but she is supportive now.
What final piece of advice would you give to someone who is inspired to take action and build an online business?
You have to do your research. If you feel like an online business aligns with your life and your vision, go for it. Don't allow fear to hold you back. Burn the boat and go all in. There's no going back. Commit and stay consistent. Keep in mind that success doesn't happen overnight. However, if you commit to growth and learning, I promise that you will be successful.
