In this Kindle Q&A video, I answer the question: “What do I think about the new Kindle Unlimited?”
Kindle Unlimited was recently launched on Amazon in July of 2014, as a way of providing an e-book subscription service for their Kindle customers so that they can get access to Kindle books for only $9.99 per month.
For Kindle publishers, this meant that Kindle customers could download your Kindle book as long as it's enrolled in KDP Select. However, the way that KDP would incentivize publishers would be to pay them a certain amount only if those customers opened and read past 10% of that Kindle book.
In July of 2015, KDP recently changed the way Kindle Unlimited works and have now decided to pay Kindle publishers based on how many pages of their Kindle book that the customer opens and reads.
This means that the more pages your Kindle book has, the more potential earnings you can get because there's more pages for a customer to open and read.
Kindle publishers have yet to really know the real impact of this yet – whether it will lead to more sales or less, but it all depends on your Kindle books and obviously the quality of them.
NOTE: Kindle Unlimited does not affect you if a customer purchases your Kindle book at retail price (such as at $2.99 – you'll still get your 70% royalty).
In this video, I explain a little bit more about my thoughts on the new Kindle Unlimited program and how Kindle publishers should think about it.
