Writing a book doesn’t have to be a daunting task.
Nevertheless, a lot of people get so overwhelmed with the process that they end up procrastinating to the point of never starting. They have a belief that a book has to be 300 pages in length and that it will require an insane amount of commitment.
On top of this, they don't even know how their book will do once they publish it. As a result, their message dies at their lips.
Another reason why people never end up writing a book is that they struggle with perfectionism. They believe that a book has to be perfect. Even if they write a book, they're too afraid to publish it. A lot of perfectionistic tendencies are rooted in a fear of failure. The concern is that, if they let go of their scrupulous behaviors, their performance will suffer.
The question is… is there a way to make the writing process easier?
Yes! And here is why…
The book industry hasn't evolved a lot since its inception. However, the Internet has. Today, people consume content in a variety of different ways, whether that's through a blog post, a podcast, a YouTube video, or social media posts. As a result, they have a lower attention span.
Did you know that less than 10% of people read past the first chapter of a book?
Harvard-trained neuroscientist and expert on the science of reading, Maryanne Wolf, says that skim reading has become the normal way of reading. How online readers are consuming content is of benefit to book publishers.
Even Amazon has recognized that people have the desire to read shorter books, which is why they created a Short Reads category on their website. These books may only take 30-90 minutes to read, versus a 300-page book which may take 10+ hours.
I believe that it is possible to write a book that is 50 pages long and still gets your message across to the world. This is why I decided to create a unique book writing approach that is different from the traditional way that people have been taught.
Here is a sneak peek of my book writing approach. Before you start writing your book you want to identify what your book is about. I recommend doing keyword research on Amazon so that you know that there is a demand for the topic that you want to write about.
After you've done your keyword research you want to determine what the core message is that you want to share inside your book. From there, you want to break down your core message into different chapters.
Think of each chapter as if it were a blog post.
Identify the 3 most important things that you want to share in each chapter. When you break down a book in that way, it's a lot more achievable to create in 24-hours. Think about it… if you're writing 5 different chapters, and each chapter takes you 2 hours, you're only committing 10 hours to write your book.
When you commit to writing over 24-hours with zero distractions, you get in the zone. This is otherwise referred to as ‘flow‘, a state of mind in which a person becomes fully immersed in an activity, to the point where they are completely focused on what they are doing.
When you get into a flow state, it's easier to create momentum with your writing. If you immerse yourself in the writing process and allow your ideas to flow out of you, you can accomplish a book in 24 hours. I've done it many times.
One piece of advice that I can give you is to make sure that your writing isn't perfect on purpose. Write for the waste bin, so to speak, as if you're not going to use what you're writing.
If you're too in your head, you'll get writer's block. Instead, let the words flow out of you. Once you have everything on paper, you can improve and enhance your writing.
When I'm writing a book, I like to change my expectations from 100% to 80%.
It's called the 80% approach. I learned this concept from Dan Kennedy who said that 80% is good enough. Most people don't even notice the things that we obsess about. The great thing about publishing a book on Amazon is that you can go back and improve it as you go. Nothing is set in stone.
Another great thing about creating a shorter book is that you can add to it over time, in the form of a series of books. Similarly, you can make your book longer and better.
Keep in mind that there are many different ways that you can write a book. I'm merely offering a different writing option that will allow you to write your book easier and faster.
For those of you who are interested in learning more about Amazon book publishing, I created a free video training that shows you how you can create $10k a month in passive income using this business model.
If you want to go deeper and get access to my step-by-step system for how to publish a book on Amazon, check out my Mastering Book Publishing course. I've also created a course that teaches you how to effectively market your book and get more sales, which is called, Mastering Book Marketing.
