Sara Zomer turned her fantasy career into a reality.

She quit her job of 12 years just one year after joining ASM. Since then, she has experienced massive success selling on Amazon. Here is a sneak peek of my interview with her where we talk about her e-commerce journey. Let's dive in!

Can you share a little bit about yourself and how you got started selling on Amazon?

I worked in a corporate job for 12 years with a company that created apparel. Oftentimes I would imagine what it would be like to be doing something for myself. I used to dream of creating my own line of products. The problem was that I just couldn't figure out how to do it.

In my head, I imagined what it would look like, but I didn't know how to create a complete brand. All I had was my salary. When I received an email from ASM, my world changed. I remember saying to myself, “This course makes complete sense to me.” Without thinking twice about it, I decided to dive in. ASM allowed me to transform my creative idea into a reality.

I had no experience in the world of e-commerce.

Furthermore, I didn't even know anyone that was selling on Amazon. Since ASM has a money back guarantee I knew that I had nothing to lose. That's how I started.

How did you do with your first product and how did you get to the point of quitting your job?

I started the ASM course in October 2014. My first product was launched in March 2015. When preparedness meets opportunity success comes along. My first product did really well. In a few months, I was making as much money as I was making in my corporate job.

It just made sense.

This was only the beginning. I knew that businesses usually don't make any profit in the first two years. However, I was. I instantly knew this was going to be a life-changing opportunity. Around July I quit my job, but my boss asked me to say for at least six more months. In December of 2015, I finally walked away from my corporate job. It was an awesome journey and I've never looked back.

How were you able to build your business while also working at your 9-to-5 job?

I was building my Amazon business in my free time. During my lunch break, I would watch the ASM videos and do some sourcing at my desk. I would work late into the night because I was so excited. I didn't even want to sleep.

What were some of the challenges that you faced along the way and how did you overcome them?

First and foremost, I love that you are asking me this question. For anyone that is thinking about getting into a program like ASM, it's important to know what you should expect. Success is not a linear journey. It won't all be unicorns and rainbows. Instead, it will be an up and down roller coaster ride. That's how it goes.

When you find yourself in tough situations you need to become creative and resourceful.

I struggled with self-belief from time to time. In this business, one day you can feel like you are on top of a mountain and then the next day it can feel like you are going broke. I had to learn how to know myself better through the difficult times. That is how you become resilient and successful in this business.

When you first started building your Amazon business what was your goal?

At the beginning of my journey, all I wanted was to be able to pay myself a salary. That was my definition of success. Now I visualize my business growing. We have upcoming projects that will require us to start hiring more people. I want to take the business to a new level.

However, I don't just want a cash flow business that gives me a salary. I'm not looking to become the next Nike or Coca-Cola. Somewhere in between would be nice. I don't want to have to have 100% of my attention and energy placed in the business.

I have a passion and life mission to deliver wellness to people.

I'm a birth doula and yoga instructor. The whole process of becoming a parent is fascinating to me. There is very little information available to parents about what this process looks like. I love being an educator and spending my time with families. If I could do both things, have the bills paid, and have employees that are having their bills paid as well, then life would be perfect.

What do you believe is the potential of Amazon?

The potential to make money with Amazon FBA is huge. Their platform is gigantic. It has brought opportunities to hundreds of thousands of people. Amazon brought democracy to retail. With the amount of money that I had available, there is no way on earth that I could have built my online business without Amazon's structure.

In real life, you have to create a prototype, go to buyers and try to pitch your product. Amazon cut that process and said, “If you have a product, show it to the customer. If the customer likes it, you are successful. Bam!” There was no longer a need to convince buyers. Rather, you only had to convince the consumer.

In actuality, this is the only person that should say if they are interested in a product or not. This, combined with Amazon's worldwide exponential growth, makes it a huge opportunity. Amazon is opening marketplaces all over the world. The possibilities are endless.

Do you do a lot of marketing outside of Amazon for your business?

Yes, we do a lot of marketing outside of Amazon. We have also started to sell from our website. It's a very small percentage of our sales, but it's a part of it. We focused on Amazon for the first year because we wanted to follow the 80/20 rule.

Slowly but steadily we've been working on creating a fan base.

As you launch more products, you have more credibility as a brand. It allows you to build up a community which takes time, but it's invaluable. It helps us grow our brand and teaches people who we are and what we stand for.

What advice would you give to someone that may be in the same position that you were in when you first started your Amazon journey?

I'm going to quote Marie Foleo who said, “Everything is figureoutable.” We all have our challenges. You don't need to become successful next week. However, you do need to have a goal and adapt that goal to whatever your situation is in life.

Some people have all the time in the world to dedicate to this business, whereas others have limited time. However, time and time again I've seen people in the ASM community achieve massive success. They are from all walks of life and always seem to figure out how to make this business work.

There are two types of people in this world — the whiners and the doers.

If you like to whine and complain, don't even think about getting into this business. Stress will occur. Amazon will do something crazy and you will freak out. However, if you like to figure things out and love the little challenges that build up into a big conquest, this business can be life-changing for you.

Do you have any final words for my audience?

ASM has really impacted my life in a positive way. It was a game changer for me. If there is a feeling inside of you that is telling you to do something different, Amazon is the answer. ASM is the best course on the market and the community is amazing. They are there to inspire you every step of the way. I encourage you to take the plunge. You won't regret it.
