I have created a new and improved version of K Money Mastery which is called, Mastering Book Publishing!
Amazon publishing is one of the most accessible, lucrative and cost-effective ways to make money online.
I had the pleasure of interviewing my brother Andreas, who is a successful Kindle publisher on Amazon. He is going to share with you his online business journey. In particular, how he built a $70,000/month Amazon publishing empire.
Amazon is the world’s biggest online retailer. As of the first quarter of 2016, the e-retailer reported more than 310 million active customer accounts worldwide. With numbers like these, why wouldn’t anyone want to take advantage of the opportunities that this platform provides?
The traditional publishing process is long gone. With the help of the Internet and the rise of e-readers, like Kindle, and Audible, people’s interest in e-books has risen. This has inspired self-published authors to jump in and take advantage of this growing demand.
It's fair to say that self-publishing has changed the author game. If you want to learn how you can build an Amazon publishing empire, this is an interview that you don’t want to miss!

An Amazon publishing business can change your life forever.
Virtually anyone can become a self-published author and have their book live on Amazon in 48 hours. According to Author Earnings, there were 485,538,000 ebooks sold on Amazon by 20,000 unique publishers. This business is booming, and it’s here to stay. Think about the earning potential.
There is no opportunity out there like Amazon. Their marketplace is massive and it continues to grow on an exponential level, every year, which means that there is no better time than now to take create an Amazon publishing business.
Here is a sneak peek of my interview with Andreas, where I pick his brain on how he built a $70,000/month Amazon publishing empire.
Since the last interview that we did together, can you share with people how your life has changed and how you have been able to grow your Kindle publishing business?
I started my Amazon publishing business back in 2014. I had great success during the first 4 months, making $0 to over $6500 per month, which motivated me to go all-in with this online business model. Over the next year, I continued to experience success and I hit some pretty big numbers. I soon realized what a big opportunity there was to make money on Amazon, so I decided to venture into selling physical products on Amazon.
I continued selling physical products and publishing books on Amazon from 2015-2016. By January of last year, I had established a decent self-publishing portfolio of 700-800 books that was generating $70-80,000 per month in revenue. My physical products were also doing really well. I got my wife got into the business and she was making $60-70,000 per month, so we were making over 6-figures per month in both of our businesses.
In 2017 I started to notice that over the 2 years that I had been selling on Amazon, a lot of changes had occurred, which is why I decided to create my own online business that would allow me to not become so dependent on Amazon as a money-making platform. I wanted to leverage the power of Amazon and create a funnel that would attract traffic and build my own audience. This would allow me to have repeat customers, instead of always looking for new ones, which tends to happen on the Amazon platform.
I started to build relationships with consumers and continued to sell my products on a regular basis. More importantly, I started to upsell my customers from an eBook to a physical product, or whatever other product I had the desire to create; like a series of books or utilizing another platform, like Audible. This was a lot more effective than putting up a product on Amazon and trying to make money from it, month to month.
This led me to building an online brand, which really transformed my online business. Whereas before I was leveraging Amazon’s brand, everything that I create today is focused on my brand. I'm always looking for a way to steal Amazon's customers, but I continue to use their platform as a resource for traffic.
I still believe that Amazon is one of the best ways to learn and grow your business. Today, I have published over 1,100 books, and it was by leveraging the power of Amazon that I was able to make that happen. Eventually, I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could build my own audience and market outside of Amazon. When I started coaching and helping people build their Amazon publishing businesses it made sense for me to evolve and go down this path.
What strategies would you recommend to someone who is just getting started building an Amazon publishing business?
First and foremost, someone has to determine whether or not they have patience because, in the online business world, this is a skill that you need to understand and master. Ask yourself, “Am I someone who wants to see results fast and beat the learning curve, or am I someone that has patience and is willing to take the time to build success?” If it’s the latter, this business is for you.
Conversely, if you are more aggressive in your approach and don’t have patience, seek the help of a coach, a mentor, or a mastermind group who can guide you through the process and teach you a system for how you can skip the learning curve and not become so inefficient in the business. That is a common problem that happens to a lot of people. They do too much at once.
I encourage you to start by publishing a few books and going through the Mastering Book Publishing program because I think that it is the best resource for teaching you the step-by-step process for how you can build a Kindle publishing business. You need to learn the fundamentals of managing a business – everything from mastering the research process to creating and improving a product to engaging with people and getting their feedback on your product to hiring a team and outsourcing.
Keep in mind that, with each book that you create, you won't make large amounts of money right away. It takes time. If you are doing things the right way, then your 2nd book should be better than your 1st, and so on. Sometimes the money doesn't show that, but the quality can.
Most entrepreneurs that enter into the online business world need to understand that the opportunity cost of learning will determine how much money you can make in the long-term. When you get into a business you can't necessarily look at the ROI of how much money you are going to make on your investment, because you are gaining experience, knowledge, and skills.
The Amazon publishing business is great because it doesn’t cost a lot to start, relative to most online business models today, it's easy to learn, and its great for people that only have a few hours every week to start a venture and put a little capital in it. Keep in mind that a business needs nurturing. The more you put into it, the more you are going to get back. That is true for any online business.
The biggest reason why people fail in this business is that people have unrealistic expectations. They want to make $10,000 in 4 months because I did it. But the business has changed. There are a lot more demands, higher expectations in regards to quality, and consumers are spending their money differently than they did 4 years ago. Just because someone achieved a big milestone doesn't necessarily mean that you should set the same goal.
When it comes to building your Amazon publishing business, it's great to have long-term goals, but I encourage you to start with small, realistic goals that will help to build up your confidence and keep the momentum going so that you can keep grinding away and grow your business.
A lot of people are wondering if they can still make money publishing on Amazon. Moving forward, what do you see as the potential to make money publishing on Amazon?
Amazon has gone through a lot of changes. They have started to put a larger emphasis on quality within their platform. They are working really hard at adjusting their algorithm and their site so that people who create books and publish them on their platform have to create quality. For example, if you are doing a keyword search and you type something into the search bar, you will notice that the screen pauses.
What Amazon is doing is redirecting that search into a sub-category for the person’s browsing history. They've taken the 150,000 books that are in there, and they are breaking them down into smaller subcategories, making it easier for consumers to find products because, under the existing search, the algorithm isn't working to find quality.
Amazon is putting pressure on people and making sure that they are doing their due diligence. In doing so, they are making their platform more efficient for consumers. In that process, they are creating a new loophole, so if all good books are starting to show, primarily ones that have large search keywords, then you will find more high-quality books. In whatever business you are in your consumer counts, so if you focus on that, in addition to providing high-quality content, you will do well.
Even though they have made it a bit harder to rank your book organically, I think there is even more opportunity to make money on Amazon for those people who are creating high-quality books. Why? Because once their quality has been recognized, they will have more success over a longer period of time.
When I started in the Amazon publishing business, Amazon wasn’t the leader in eBooks. Today they are the world’s leader. Their strategy has changed. They know everyone goes to Amazon first, so they know that they have to keep their consumers happy.
It’s no longer about volume. Rather, it’s about quality. If you've got a good strategy that involves driving traffic, getting good feedback, engaging with your audience, improving your product, and creating unique content, then you will be successful.
Amazon is a real business now. Before you could get away with putting content online and making money from it, but now every book that is submitted has to be unique. That doesn't mean that it has to be a book that nobody has ever seen. Rather, it has to be a book that produces leads for Amazon. If you have a chapter that is unique, that is something that will get Amazon's attention and they will promote you for it.
Building a business takes hard work and commitment. That's the only reason that I've had success in my business. I worked hard, was patient, committed to learning, and applied myself. Because of that, I was confident that my products would sell. Today, I keep trying to find a new angle so that I can stay one step ahead of everyone else that is publishing and creating products.
Last year was a breakthrough for me because I started focusing on building my brand, which made it easier to engage with an audience and sell the next version of my products. I feel way better about my business today because its a real business. It doesn't matter what is happening on Amazon because I am creating high-quality products that are generating consistent revenue, and that is how I've stayed ahead of the curve.
What are the keys to success in 2018 and beyond in the Amazon publishing business?
As Amazon keeps evolving into 2018, you need to be better prepared for the changes that will occur. When you learn something, you need to ask yourself, “Is this a short-term trick or a long-term plan?” Invest your time and energy into learning things that will stay with you long-term. There is a lot of white noise out there, and if you are paying attention to it, then you won't be able to grow your online business.
Focus on information that allows you to gain skills that are in alignment with your long-term vision. If you do that, you will groom yourself to develop a mastery mindset. Also, now that Amazon is a real business, you need to know that there will be days when you are grinding. If you aren't grinding, you aren't growing. Until you make it and are able to cash-in from your efforts, you have to be committed to working hard and making sacrifices. I think that Amazon will force entrepreneurs to act this way.
You also need to invest more in your Amazon publishing business. The days of hiring a freelancer on Upwork and getting the lowest dollar offer are over. There are too many entrepreneurs out there that are hungry, motivated, and inspired to create high-quality content. Pay for quality and find the right people to work for you.
Don't be proud because you found the cheapest writer. That's a sign that you are doing something wrong because a lot of people are paying for quality. When it comes to marketing your eBooks, this may mean that you need to invest in Google ads or Facebook ads in order to create visibility.
I know you do a lot of coaching now and help people create 6-figure Amazon publishing businesses. Can you share a little bit more about the coaching that you offer and how people can learn more about it?
I coach a lot of people about the process that I implemented in the first year of building my Amazon publishing business. I also teach people about branding and how they can create multiple revenue streams within a brand, and how to build a physical products business. I also have programs related to investing and real estate, for those who want to diversify and have some extra cash flow.
To anyone that wants to get into the online world, I always recommend that people build their cash flow first, and then look at alternatives to diversify yourself.
