In his Business Mastery programs, Tony Robbins teaches that there are three different business identities – The Skilled Producer, Leader, and Entrepreneur.
Let’s break down the qualities of each and see which one you resonate with most:
1. The Skilled Producer
This person is a specialist. Someone that has a specific skill set and that has mastered their craft (lawyer, coach, doctor, athlete, actor). They love what they do, and are passionate about cultivating their craft and sharing it with the world.
2. Leader
This person loves leading people. They are team-oriented, have great communication and organizational skills, and thrive in a role where they are in charge of motivating and monitoring people and systems.
3. Entrepreneur
This person is a visionary who has a passion for creating new things. He or she is focused on building a business, and as such, tends to take big risks.
Which type do you align with most?
Tony stresses that while everyone may embody elements of all three, there will always be one of them that best reflects our true nature. When you discover your true nature, you align with your mission.
Oftentimes, one of the biggest sources of stress that people encounter in their work life is trying to be someone that they are not. Can you relate?
How I Discovered My True Nature
When I was younger, my nature was geared towards being a skilled producer. I wanted to be an architect because I was got recognition for it in high school.
Eventually, as I got older, I changed my values and I realized that I didn't want to be in front of a computer every day. I started to develop my social skills during this time, which put the values of connection and fun at the top of my list.
When I was 21 years, old I started my first business. At that time, I had a desire to be a skilled producer. However, the challenge was that I was not an entrepreneur or a leader/manager. It was against my nature, but I had to learn those skills out of necessity.
I know what my true nature is; I love to grow, contribute, and help people. I have learned that it’s important that I find people who can handle the operations side of my business so that I have the time and energy to live my mission.
Which business identity do you need in your team, in order to make sure you are able to leverage your unique strengths and focus on your mission?
Keep in mind that when you are first starting your business, you may have to do things that you don't enjoy, but this is a great opportunity to cultivate new skills.
However, ultimately, you want to know what your nature is and make sure that is the area wherein which you are developing yourself the most.
When you discover your true nature, you align with your mission. Uncover and develop your true gift in life, and devote your energy to mastering it.
