His book provides a roadmap for how you can start and grow your business fast.
Launching a product online takes a lot of work. In our interview together, I pick Jeff's brain about how to launch a product online the right way.
Do you mind sharing your story?
I was a stay at home Dad. It wasn't because I had sold my .com business for $20 million dollars. It was desperate times. I failed in the corporate world. My wife was supporting the family with two kids. I came up with this idea to start publishing content online. At that point, all I had was an email address and a website.
However, I did have knowledge about the stock market so I started publishing a newsletter, Gratefully, through word of mouth, I built up a following. A few months later, I had the idea to create my first launch. When it comes to money, everyone has a different frame of reference. My launch brought in $1,650. That was life-changing for me because I had very little money at the time.
That was the start of everything.
I knew that if I could do one launch, I could do them, again and again. That's what happened. My second launch was 3-4 months later and it did $6,000. The third launch did $8,000. Over time, the launches got better and better. A few years later, I did a launch that made $106,000 in one week which helped me buy a home for my family.
With every new launch, I improved my marketing, my products, my list, and my following. I had a launch a few years ago that hit $1 million dollars in the first fifty-three minutes! I've had at least a dozen days where we've done $1 million dollars in sales in a given day. The ride has been insane.
What are the different types of people and industries that your program, Product Launch Formula, has worked for?
Product Launch Formula is a process that I teach. The foundation of it is about delivering a lot of value in a structured way. I talk about the pre-launch phase which is where you deliver three pieces of content. Doing so delivers a lot of value for the person who is consuming your pre-launch.
Once you deliver value over the course of 5-10 days, naturally it will lead to a sale.
By providing value, people will love you. Some people will want to give you money without doing a hard pitch. If you are putting something good out into the world, I believe that it is your obligation to make an effective argument for your sale.
You don't want to coerce people into buying. Rather, it's about leading them towards taking the leap into whatever your paid product is. Every thought leader in the industry has either directly learned from me or learned from someone who has learned from me.
Do you mind sharing the process that people should go through for launching their product online?
With Product Launch Formula I teach three different styles of launches which are comprised of stories, sequences, and triggers. As humans, we communicate through storytelling. This is why we build stories into our pre-launch. In a product launch, you never want to depend on one of anything. This is why we want to integrate sequencing into the process.
Triggers are mental in nature that we are all influenced by, one of which includes social proof. We build those triggers into the sequencing process. The first part of the sequence is the pre-launch sequence and open cart sequence.
In the pre-launch, there are three pieces of content.
The first piece is what we call, “The journey”. This is where you are teaching people that there is an opportunity that can change their lives. It could in the form of a PDF, podcast or blog post, but typically we do videos. This is the easiest way for most of us to communicate our ideas.
The second piece is what we call, “The transformation”. In here, we talk about how a person's life is going to change. The third piece is called, “Ownership”. This is when we start to make it real about what their transformation will look like when you offer them your product.
What prevents people from being successful with their product launches?
I stumbled upon Tony Robbins when I was starting my personal development journey. When I first bought his course, Personal Power 2, I realized that most of the work that he presents is a curation of other people's work that he has learned. No matter what you want to learn in the world, there is someone who has dedicated their life to teaching that knowledge.
You've got to tap into the masters who have put in the 10,000 hours.
The people that I know who are the most successful are the ones that consistently seek out the masters and then they actually follow their work and do the work. I have students that are running $10-20 million dollar businesses. They had nothing going on before they came into my world and got Product Launch Formula. Those are the people who went through the entire process and didn't start innovating until they finished. It's about progress, not perfection.
How can someone leverage their online business to create their ideal lifestyle?
It comes down to being intentional and knowing what kind of life you want. Get a vision for your life and then work backward from there. A huge part of my life is about meditation. I've been meditating on and off for nearly twenty years. It quiets my mind. It's those moments of quiet where I get clarity about where my life is going. On my YouTube channel, I talk about why it's important to schedule your lifestyle.
You have to get control of your mornings so that you set yourself up for a great day.
This is why I've been hardcore on a morning ritual since 2009. If the first thing you do is pick up your phone when you wake up in the morning, you've outsourced your time to someone else's priorities. This is why my phone doesn't go to my bedroom. It stays on the first floor. I don't look at it until I've finished meditating and I've done my workout.
Any general advice for people who are just starting their online business journey?
We live in a world where people live on social media. Don't compare your real life to someone else's stage show. That's a saying I learned from Dan Sullivan. You have to protect your mindset and your confidence. If you let yourself get dragged down by comparing yourself to others, you won't go anywhere. Secondly, take baby steps in your business and move forward every day. Get your first offer up, get your opt-in page up, get your first post online. Find your voice and find your followers.
