Do you have an evening ritual?
How you end your night determines how your next day will play out. This is why it's so important that you have a night routine.
An evening ritual is simply a repeated system of habits that helps you wind down and conclude your day. My evening ritual is non-negotiable.

How do you spend your evenings?
When you have long workdays, it can be challenging to shut off your mind. In this state, sleep is highly unlikely. Oftentimes, this is when people turn on the TV or scroll through their phones. Entirely unbeknownst to them is the fact that staring at a screen is further inhibiting their ability to fall asleep.
According to the National Institutes of Health, it’s estimated that around 30% of the general population in the United States has trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. If you don't get enough sleep, it makes sense that your energy levels will be diminished. As an entrepreneur, I don't have time to be lethargic. If I'm not feeling full power, my business doesn't run effectively.
On top of that, fatigue wreaks havoc on my productivity levels. This is why my evening ritual is so important. Before I go to bed every night, I engage in a series of rituals that nurture my mind, body, and spirit. Doing so ensures that I get the most out of my day and my life. Here are some of the things that I do as part of my evening ritual.
1. I wear blue-blocking glasses
The brand of blue-blocking glasses that I wear is called Swannies. This is a private labeled product that my friend, James Swanwick sells on Amazon & Shopify. This product blocks out blue lights, which is the light that you get from digital devices, like computer screens and phones.
Research shows that too much exposure to blue light late at night can disturb the wake and sleep cycle, leading to problems sleeping and daytime tiredness. Blue-blocking glasses help your brain release melatonin so that you are better able to fall asleep at night.
2. I watch Netflix and chill
As part of my morning ritual, I always ask myself what the top 3 actions are that I want to achieve throughout the day. If I end up achieving all of these goals, I reward myself. I will engage in something pleasurable, like watching a Netflix show or a sports game. These are some of my guilty pleasures.
3. I reflect upon the magic moments of my day
Self-reflection through journaling is a core part of my evening ritual. I ask myself, “What was great about today?” Even if you had the worst day ever, there is always something to be grateful for. You have to be willing to look for the good, which is usually found in the small things that you do.
When you create the habit of looking for the good, more good things will naturally flow into your life. I also ask myself questions like, “What were the magic moments of my day?” As an example of a fun exercise you can do with yourself or your partner, Tatiana and I have a jar with post-it notes that we've created.
On these post-it notes, we write down one moment that we shared together that was something we will never forget. We put it in the jar and after some time passes, we will pull out the jar, look at the notes, and reflect upon those magic moments. The more that you capture and feel into the magic moments that you experience, the richer your life will be.
I also ask myself, “What could I have done better during the day? What did I learn?” If you commit to learning and growing every day, over time you will have a better quality of life.
4. I read or watch an inspirational video
I'm a huge fan of reading. I believe that reading is a powerful tool for learning more about yourself and the world. It depends on the book, but certain resources will relax me more than others. In the evening, I also like to watch educational videos and documentaries on Gaia. It's like Netflix, but the content is focused more on spirituality and self-development.
5. I listen to guided meditations
Meditation has changed my life. As someone who is always switched on in my business, it's so important that I take time to calm my mind. Meditating helps me release stress and feel more in control of my emotional state. When you go to bed, there is a period of time when your mind is more suggestible to certain ideas.
This is why I like to integrate guided sleep meditations into my evening ritual. This is a great exercise to relax your mind and body before bed. One of the first self-development teachers I learned from was Paul McKenna who is an expert in NLP and hypnosis. If I'm not listening to one of his recordings, I'll play Christian meditations.
If you don't already have it, I suggest downloading an app onto your phone called Calm. They've got some great meditations and sleep stories. Any empowering message that you can implant into your subconscious mind is a bonus. In terms of when I go to bed, I aim for 10 pm and I wake up at 5 or 6 am. Once you condition yourself to wake up early, it becomes easier over time.
6. I wear my Oura Ring
This is a fitness tracker that tracks your sleep, heart rate, and body temperature. The Oura Ring tells you how much deep and REM sleep you are getting. By having this awareness, I've been able to increase the amount of deep sleep that I get every night, by 2 hours.
This is my evening ritual for optimal sleep and finishing the day strong.
If you want to feel unstoppable every day, it's equally important that you create an empowering morning ritual. Creating healthy habits in the day sets you up to win. I believe that, if you want to maximize your full potential, you must give equal attention to all three aspects of yourself.
This is why I wrote a book called 67 Morning Ritual Habits For Your Body, Mind, and Spirit. The rituals inside of my book are designed to help you become the best version of yourself. If you want to go deeper, I've got a course called Morning Ritual Mastery that will guide you through how to create an empowering morning ritual in 30 days.
How you start and end your day determines your success in life. Make yourself a priority. Creating healthy habits will give you the mental and emotional edge that you need to thrive.
