This single Mom makes $500,000 per month on Amazon FBA.

While I was at the SellerCon event in Orlando, Florida I ran into Angie Chacon. I interviewed her last year while I was at the Amazing Seller Summit event. She is a multi-million dollar Amazon seller.

She is a role model for all of the single mothers around the world. Are you ready to learn how this single Mom makes $500,000 per month?

Angie began her journey with ASM in 2014. She made $100,000 during the first year of her Amazon business and quickly started to grow from there. Before starting ASM, Angie had no prior e-commerce experience. She just had a burning desire to create a better life for herself and her children. Angie’s journey to success wasn’t always easy. Her inspiring story is proof that anyone can overcome any challenge, despite their life circumstances. 

Here is a sneak peek of our interview together, where Angie talks about how she built a multi-million dollar online business empire.

What has your journey has been like since we did our last interview together?

I've been really busy building my own manufacturing company. That's a different twist that I took from most Amazon sellers. I have learned some really important things about the Amazon business. I’ve realized that you hit barriers at different levels. It’s been an interesting experience.

Some people wonder if I get anything out of events like SellerCon, because of the level that I'm at in my Amazon business, but I do. I receive so much value. Sometimes all it takes is one conversation with someone who gives me a golden nugget piece of advice that takes my business to a new level.

For those that didn't watch our first interview, can you share a little bit about your story and how you started selling on Amazon?

I started ASM 3.5 years ago. During this time, I was in the process of starting my life all over again. I had just gone through a divorce. I had been married for 26 years, so it was a big change in my life. I was a single Mom with 4 kids. It was a bit of a challenge. I was working full-time. I heard about the Amazon opportunity so I thought that I would try it. I had some friends that were doing the ASM course and they had experienced success with it, so I gave it a shot.

I didn't want a 9-5 job anymore.

I wanted to run an e-commerce business. I was searching for something that would give me more flexibility. I had no Amazon experience before I started ASM. I had never even bought anything on Amazon. I had to learn everything from scratch.

I love the course because it teaches you knowledge from the viewpoint of someone who knows nothing. I tried to study as fast as I could but I didn't have a lot of time, so I spent a couple of hours every night working on it. I had to have it work for me because it was my opportunity to change my life. I didn't want anything else.

What was the biggest motivator that you had?

At first, it was just financial. I wanted to have an income to cover my bills and get me out of a 9-5 job. I wanted to have freedom of time so that I could provide my kids with the things that they needed and spend more time with them. I didn't want to be so worried about money on a weekly basis. Traveling was also big on my list. There were a lot of personal aspects of this business model that I liked.

When you first joined ASM, you mentioned that time was an issue. As a single Mom, how did you manage your time, and how long did it take before you started to see results from your efforts?

I studied and learned any moment that I could. I would spend one hour before bed working on the training. When I went for a run, hit the gym, or was riding somewhere in my car, I would listen to the training.

I pretty much cut out anything that would be a distraction or a waste of time.

I was 100% dedicated and focused towards creating my future. Within 6 months I had 5 products. I was doing $60,000 per month in sales and I was able to finally quit my full-time day job and started doing Amazon full-time. It made a huge difference in my life. From there, my Amazon business blew up.

How many products do you have today?

I have one brand, and I have about 40 different products. I'm in the US marketplace and all across Europe and Canada. I've expanded everywhere. I went from doing $60,000 per month to $500,000 per month in sales. Today, I have created my own manufacturing facility, because I wanted to have full control over my manufacturing.

This past year I focused a lot more of my efforts on helping others, public speaking, mentoring. These are all things that I love to do.

What were some of the challenges that you faced along your journey, and what were the lessons that you learned from them?

The first lesson that I learned was that I picked the wrong product because I didn't follow the training. I went back, re-reviewed the training, picked the right product and then I was good.

A lot of people don't persist if they have a product that doesn't do well. You need to make sure that you do everything that you need to in order to get your product going. The second lesson that I learned is discipline and time management.

When you work for yourself, it can be hard to stay disciplined and motivated.

At one point, I just hired someone part-time to help me so that I have a purpose to get to work at 9 am and do work. That helped to motivate me and that was a big change in my operating base and being able to get my scheduling in order.

What did you pull upon in order to keep going, despite the obstacles that you faced along your journey?

There were times when I wanted to give up. I hate to say that in front of people because of where I'm at, but its real. Being connected with other Amazon sellers made a big difference for me. Coming to events like this and seeing how successful people are and having friends that were doing well on Amazon really helped me.

It provided me with the momentum that I needed in order to keep going.

I would do whatever it was that people would suggest and it worked. Not surprisingly, the next week I would be making more money than ever before. That's what I love about the ASM community. You have mentors that are always there to help you and keep you motivated.

You referenced different stages that you've gone through along your journey to success. What does your next level look like, and what have you learned along the way?

At this point in the game, it's a lot about building my structure and my team so that I continue building my brand. I recently hired an expert on building my Shopify store and he's helping me get that going. I also hired a social media person.

If I'm trying to do it all on my own, I'm not focused on creating new products, If I'm tied down to the day-to-day operations, then I can't work on my business. I'm realizing the importance of bringing in people that are skilled at those tasks.

What made you go in the direction of running your own manufacturing business?

I'm in the beauty category, so I have never sourced from China because that's not recommended when you are doing beauty products. However, I did have another manufacturer doing all my products at the onset. To be honest, I ran into a lot of trouble running out of things. They could not grow with my growth.

When you run out of a product on Amazon it's no fun.

At one point I decided that I was going to do my own manufacturing and have full control over my quality and my timeline. It's a whole other business model. It's not something that I recommend that you do right away, but it can be done. I found out what I needed to do, got a facility, bought the machinery, and hired all of the staff. I'm at a point where I've been thinking of buying a factory in China to do all of my packagings. That would be my next level of expansion.

You work with a lot of people. What do you see some of the biggest challenges that they've faced going through this process?

The first problem that people face is trying to figure out what product to pick. People tend to overcomplicate it because they want it to be perfect and make sure that it does well. That's the first stumbling block that people face. I encourage people to just get something going, go through the learning curve, and then keep adding products.

What would you say to those people that are still skeptical about whether or not selling on Amazon is a good idea, and what do you see as the opportunities that exist for Amazon in the future?

Like anything, there will be moments when you want to be innovative. There are tons of opportunities on Amazon. It continues to grow at a rapid rate and I don't see that stopping. Getting into the e-commerce game is extremely valuable for anybody.

The name of the game has always been how you can improve what is already there, or how to stand out from your competition.

It takes some skill in learning how to see that, but it's not hard. I see people pick a product that I don't think will be successful and they kill it.

Any general advice for people that you would have given yourself when you first started?

Don't be slow about it. Scheduling your time is crucial to making progress. Most people doing this program are doing this for a second income source. Once you get through the training, the product research and manufacturing process, things get a lot of easier. Cut out anything that does not contribute to your success. Plow through in 6 months and get a few products out there. I took last year off.  That's 3.5 years into my Amazon business. I traveled more than I ever have in my entire life.

Never in my life would I have dreamed that I would be doing this. I'm sending my son to a private school, I'm donating to causes that I care about. It's amazing. I worked my butt off for the first year and now I'm reaping the benefits of my efforts. Now, I have financial freedom. It came down to being persistent.
