3 Simple Tips On How To Stay Motivated Throughout The Day
Here are three simple tips that you can apply the next time you find yourself losing motivation throughout the day.
1. Have A Goal That Excites You
We all need to have something in our lives that is so exciting for us that it pulls us towards it. By having a clear target that you feel compelled to achieve, your brain will become obsessed with making it a reality. Let me ask you… has there ever been something in your life that you were obsessed about?
Have you ever wanted something so bad, that you'd do anything to have it? That obsession and drive, is the same motivation that you need for your goals. Your goal can't just be something that you'd like to have in your life. It has to be something that you HAVE TO HAVE.
If your goals aren't compelling enough, then I'd look at how you can change that. Perhaps you need to change your goal and pick something else. Or maybe you need to find a way to think about this goal in a new way and really associate to how much this would change your life.
I know I've dropped goals in the past, that I just wasn't that excited about or truly committed to. Right now, I only focus on doing projects that I'll enjoy and am motivated to do. It's become much easier this way, instead of having to force myself to try to accomplish something that I didn't really care that much for.
So give it a try and really assess your goals and find a way to make it more compelling for you! If your goal is already exciting for you, then focus on it all throughout your day. By focusing on that goal and reading it again and again, it'll help you to stay motivated throughout the day.
2. Create More Reasons To Achieve Your Goal
The more reasons you have to achieve your goal, the better.
Here's some questions you can ask yourself throughout the day to stay motivated, that have really worked for me:
- Why is doing this today a must for me?
- Why is taking action on this goal important for me today?
- Why do I want this?
- What will it cost me if I don't do this today?
- What will be the benefits I will get by doing this today?
These are daily questions you can ask, that will help you to stay motivated throughout the day. The more you can emotionally associate to these answers, the more it'll provide fuel for you to take action. Sometimes we don't feel like doing something. We get tired during the day or lose that motivation.
This is a perfect opportunity for you to take out your goals and ask yourself these questions, to remind yourself of all the reasons you have to be motivated. If you want to try a cool exercise for getting motivated, then check out this video blog on how to get motivated right now.
3. Put Yourself In A Peak State
I have a daily ritual that I do all throughout my day to help me get into a peak state. I believe rituals are key in your life, as they condition you daily to be that which you want to be. I also have a morning ritual and an evening ritual that I also perform, which also help put me at a peak state of motivation.
Understand that motivation is just a state of mind. You can control whatever state you're in by directing your focus and using your body in different ways. If you're feeling unmotivated, it's likely because you're focused on certain thoughts that are making you feel that way. You're also likely using your body in such ways that are making you feel this way as well.
So to change your state, I suggest doing some of the following things:
- Focus on your goals and what you want. Make it exciting in your mind!
- Focus on your reasons why your goals are important. Ask yourself questions throughout the day, which will direct your focus and change your state.
- Say positive affirmations or incantations to yourself out loud, over and over again.
- Go for a walk, jump up and down, dance around your house, or do whatever you need to do to change your body and snap yourself out of the unmotivated state.
- Meditate, relax, take a break, or do something else to break your state – ANYTHING – and then re-focus on your goals or what you want to get done.
Managing your state is key for staying motivated throughout the day. You need to consistently be aware of how you're feeling and whenever you notice you're slipping, then quickly get yourself back to where you want to be. It takes time. It takes conditioning yourself, day after day. It becomes much, much easier with time.
However, I've found that your motivation during the day will radically improve over time, as the more you do these things.
